What happened to the Kickstarter pre-order?
Peak Design’s Kickstarter campaign ran for 42 days, from September 3 to October 16, 2024. It raised $3,438,028 from 10,170 backers against a $50,000 goal, according to the campaign page. Those figures describe the campaign, not product performance or current availability. The pre-order campaign is over; Peak Design’s current Outdoor collection lists the backpacks for sale.
What is the Outdoor Line?
Peak Design describes the Outdoor Line as a system for outdoor activities and camera carry, distinct from its Travel and Everyday products. The company says the bags prioritize lightweight construction, breathable and adjustable harnesses, comfort, and hydration-bladder routing. These are design priorities stated by Peak Design, not independently verified comparisons with its other lines.
On the Outdoor Line page, Peak Design highlights roll-top top access, full interior access from the back, CordHook external carry, camera-cube compatibility, and running-vest-inspired straps. The current collection lists three backpack sizes:

Camera-cube compatibility depends on the bag and cube version
Peak Design’s campaign FAQ distinguishes compatibility by backpack size and accessory generation. If you already own a camera cube, check its version and size against the intended bag before buying.

- 45L backpack: Peak Design says V1 Camera Cubes are fully compatible.
- 25L backpack and 7L sling: The FAQ says V1 cubes are not compatible. V2 added Smedium and X-Small sizes for the 25L backpack and 7L sling.
- 2L sling: Peak Design says it does not fit its Camera Cubes. The FAQ says it can fit a point-and-shoot camera, while larger cameras likely will not fit.

Peak Design’s campaign FAQ, last updated September 23, 2024, describes the bags as “Good enough to keep you gear safe in a light rain, but you should purchase the rain fly for maximum protection.” That is not a claim that the bags are waterproof. For stronger protection, the company recommends purchasing the rain fly.
