Has Patrick Roberts joined Birmingham City permanently?
Yes. Roberts initially joined Birmingham City from Sunderland on a season-long loan for 2025–26, announced by Sunderland on 1 September 2025. BBC Sport reported that the permanent transfer was completed on 2 February 2026, with Roberts signing a two-and-a-half-year contract. The Premier League’s January 2026 transfer list also records him as a transfer out from Sunderland to Birmingham.
At the time of the September loan announcement, Sunderland said Roberts had made 147 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals and providing 18 assists in all competitions. BBC Sport reported that, by the permanent transfer, he had made 26 appearances for Birmingham, with three goals and four assists.
What was Roberts’ estimated transfer value?
FotMob’s Birmingham transfer listing showed an estimated value of €4.5 million on the September 2025 loan entry and €2.3 million on the February 2026 permanent-transfer entry. Those are database estimates attached to the respective entries, not disclosed transaction prices. The available listing does not establish how FotMob calculated them.

How much did Birmingham pay Sunderland?
The exact amount has not been disclosed in the cited reporting. BBC Sport described the fee as undisclosed, so FotMob’s €2.3 million estimate for the February entry should not be presented as the amount Birmingham paid. The €4.5 million figure belongs to the earlier loan entry and likewise does not indicate a fee paid for the permanent transfer.

When Sunderland announced the loan, Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman said Roberts had been a catalyst in the club’s success over the previous four years, but that limited opportunities at Sunderland made it appropriate for him to play regularly during the campaign. That statement explains Sunderland’s stated reason for the loan; it does not disclose the later transfer fee.
