The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) added 25,281 investors in September 2026, taking its reported investor base to 656,218, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), which attributed the figures to Finance Minister’s adviser Khurram Schehzad. That is the latest monthly record reported in the available sources; it is a measure of new registrations, not evidence that investors made money or that the market is suitable for everyone.

What the September 2026 record measures

APP reported that 25,281 new investors joined the PSX in September 2026 and that the total investor base reached 656,218. Schehzad described the change as a shift in who is participating in the market. The report’s wording does not establish that every addition represents a unique individual, so the count is best understood as reported new investors rather than a verified headcount of distinct people. APP’s report

The September count exceeded the earlier monthly figure reported by PSX: 25,140 new investor accounts in July 2026, which the exchange described at the time as its highest monthly opening count. The measures are phrased differently in the two reports—“investors” for September and “investor accounts” for July—so the figures show the change in reported monthly scale but should not be treated as perfectly identical measures. PSX’s July announcement

Reporting period Reported additions Reported total Source wording
July 2026 25,140 Not stated in the cited PSX post New investor accounts
September 2026 25,281 656,218 New investors and total investor base

How the monthly record differs from annual growth

The September record is a monthly figure. Separately, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) reported that the investor count rose from 392,775 on July 1, 2025, to 583,052 on June 30, 2026—an increase of 190,277, or 48%, over FY2025–26. These figures cover a fiscal year ending before September’s monthly record, so they describe different periods and should not be combined into a single record claim. APP’s report of the SECP release

What may have made access easier

SECP identified several account-access measures alongside the fiscal-year growth figures. It said the limit for a Sahulat Account was raised from Rs. 1 million to Rs. 3 million, duplicate requirements were removed for some bank and digital-provider routes, IBAN-based verification was introduced, and minor trading accounts were enabled. The regulator’s reported figures do not quantify how much each measure contributed to the increase, so they should not be presented as proven causes of the September record. How PSX accounts are opened

PSX says trading accounts are opened through brokers. Its investor-awareness guidance describes online onboarding and routes involving authorized entities or bank-provided KYC information, subject to verification and due diligence. Requirements can differ by account type and onboarding route; check current PSX, SECP and broker instructions before applying. PSX investor-awareness guide

For non-resident Pakistanis

The PSX guide describes a route for non-resident Pakistanis seeking Roshan Equity Investment: apply through a designated Pakistani bank’s Roshan Digital Account portal, select a designated PSX broker, and complete that broker’s KYC and due diligence. Confirm the current eligible banks, brokers and requirements with the relevant institutions before starting. PSX investor-awareness guide

Understand the risks before investing

PSX says brokers must provide new customers with a prescribed risk disclosure document. Read it and ask the broker to explain anything unclear before trading. The exchange also says brokers may not accept public deposits against fixed or guaranteed returns; treat any such promise as a warning sign and verify the firm’s status through official channels. More account openings indicate broader registration and participation, but they do not show whether those investors earned returns, whether shares are undervalued, or whether investing is appropriate for a particular person. The record is a participation statistic—not an investment recommendation.
