National Savings Pakistan’s rate schedule effective 1 October 2026 was mixed, not a blanket cut: most listed rates rose, the 3-month Short Term Savings Certificate (STSC) rate fell, and the Savings Account rate remained 10.00% per annum. The official schedule gives the effective date and unchanged Savings Account rate; the scheme-by-scheme figures below are reported by Pakistan Era, which says it reviewed the CDNS rate card and scheme sheets. Check the official rate schedule for the applicable current rate before investing.

What are the latest National Savings rates in Pakistan?

The figures below are reported rates effective 1 October 2026. Rates are annual headline rates, not a calculation of an individual investor’s net return. The official schedule confirms that its summary is effective from that date and says the Savings Account rate remains 10.00% per annum. For the detailed rates, the table reflects Pakistan Era’s report; confirm the relevant row on the official schedule, as rates may change.

Behbood Savings Certificates 12.72% 12.60%; up 0.12 percentage points
Pensioners’ Benefit Account 12.72% 12.60%; up 0.12 percentage points

Regular Income Certificates 11.76% 11.16%; up 0.60 percentage points
Special Savings Certificates, periods 1–5 11.60% 10.90%; up 0.70 percentage points
Special Savings Certificates, final period 12.90% 12.00%; up 0.90 percentage points
Short Term Savings Certificate, 3 months 10.80% 10.86%; down 0.06 percentage points
Short Term Savings Certificate, 6 months 11.08% 10.86%; up 0.22 percentage points
Short Term Savings Certificate, 12 months 11.31% 11.28%; up 0.03 percentage points
Savings Account 10.00% 10.00%; unchanged, as noted on the official schedule

Pakistan Era also reports these Islamic scheme rates effective 1 October 2026: Sarwa Islamic Savings Account, 11.33%; Sarwa Islamic Term Account, 11.33% for one year, 11.57% for three years, and 11.70% for five years. These figures are from its report, rather than the official schedule extract available here; check the live official schedule for confirmation.

Did National Savings change profit rates on 1 October 2026?

Yes. The schedule’s stated effective date is 1 October 2026, and the reported comparison shows increases for most listed products. The 3-month STSC was the exception among the listed conventional rates, dropping from 10.86% to 10.80%. The Savings Account stayed at 10.00%; National Savings’ official note says, “There is no change in Savings Account (SA) Profit and remains at 10.00% p.a.”

So the phrase “slashed profit rates” overstates what happened across National Savings: one listed short-term rate declined, while most listed rates increased and the Savings Account did not change.

What is the Behbood profit rate now?

Pakistan Era reports a 12.72% rate for Behbood Savings Certificates effective 1 October 2026, up from 12.60%. This is a reported scheme rate, not a guarantee that every investor is eligible or will receive the same net return after applicable deductions. Check the official scheme information and current rate before applying.

What is the Regular Income Certificate rate?

Pakistan Era reports an 11.76% rate for Regular Income Certificates effective 1 October 2026, up from 11.16%. RICs have a five-year maturity and pay profit monthly, according to the official product information. The same page lists a minimum investment of Rs 50,000 and early-encashment service charges that taper during the first four years. It also states withholding tax of 15% for ATL filers and 30% for non-filers, and that RIC investment is exempt from Zakat. Confirm the current terms on the official RIC page before investing.

Which rate went down, and why does the scheme matter?

Short Term Savings Certificates

Only the 3-month STSC rate in the reported table fell: from 10.86% to 10.80%. The 6-month rate rose to 11.08%, and the 12-month rate rose to 11.31%. Compare the term you would actually choose rather than treating “STSC” as one rate.

Special Savings Certificates

Special Savings Certificates have a three-year tenure and pay profit every six months. The official product information says no profit is payable if a certificate is encashed before completing six months, and lists Pakistani nationals and overseas Pakistanis as eligible. The reported rate is 11.60% for periods 1–5 and 12.90% for the final period; payout timing and the final-period rate mean the headline figure alone does not describe every payment.

Defence Savings Certificates

Defence Savings Certificates have a ten-year maturity. The official product information says no profit is payable if a certificate is encashed before one complete year. Pakistan Era reports an 11.80% rate effective 1 October 2026, up from 11.61%.

Restricted-benefit schemes

Behbood Savings Certificates, the Pensioners’ Benefit Account and the Shuhada Family Welfare Account are distinct products with scheme-specific eligibility conditions. Their matching reported rate of 12.72% does not make them interchangeable with an account or certificate open to every saver. Read the relevant official scheme rules before assuming you qualify.

How to compare a National Savings rate with your own return

A headline annual rate is only one part of the decision. A suitable comparison should account for:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Eligibility: confirm that the scheme accepts you under its current rules, especially for products designed for particular groups.
  • Tenure and access: match the product’s maturity and early-encashment consequences to when you may need the money.
  • Profit timing: distinguish monthly RIC payments from six-monthly SSC payments and the terms of other products.
  • Investment limits: check the current minimum and any maximum for your specific scheme; the RIC page lists a Rs 50,000 minimum.
  • Deductions: tax and Zakat treatment can differ by scheme and personal circumstances. Do not treat a gross headline rate as a guaranteed net return.

National Savings’ official site provides scheme information and the rate schedule. Terms and rates can be revised, so use the relevant live page and schedule when making a decision rather than carrying the October 2026 figures forward as permanent rates.
