What the changes do—and do not—show

These are modest movements in reported share, not evidence of a sudden market reversal. PhoneWorld mentions pricing, network quality and data offerings as competitive factors, but its report does not establish that any one of them caused the changes. Nor does it provide subscriber-flow or churn data showing that customers moved directly from one named operator to another.

A market-share figure also does not measure network quality, customer satisfaction, revenue share or profitability. It cannot, by itself, show which network is best for an individual customer.

How the figures relate to Pakistan’s subscriber totals

Business Recorder reported PTA figures of 200.55 million cellular subscribers and 150.588 million 3G and 4G users at the end of December 2025. Those are December totals, not the denominator identified for PhoneWorld’s January market-share figures. The categories are also different: total cellular subscriptions and 3G/4G users should not be treated as interchangeable.

For additional context, Business Recorder reported the December 4G bases as 55.52 million for Jazz, 42.35 million for Zong, 27.42 million for Telenor Pakistan and 19.708 million for Ufone. These counts describe 4G users, not each operator’s total cellular subscriber share.

Why Telenor and Ufone are not separate ownership groups today

The January comparison reflects the brands as separately reported at that time. Dawn reported on January 1, 2026, that PTCL had acquired all issued share capital of Telenor Pakistan and expected it to continue as a separate legal entity for several months before integration with Ufone, subject to approvals. Dawn later reported that Telenor Pakistan was formally amalgamated into PTML by July 1, 2026, after final statutory approval, and ceased to exist as a separate legal entity.

Dawn also reported PTA figures for end-May 2026 of 36.42% for Jazz, 26.62% for Zong and 35.91% for the merged entity. These later figures have a different date and corporate structure; they should not be read as a like-for-like continuation of the January table.

What to compare before choosing a mobile network

Share gains are not a recommendation to switch. For a personal decision, compare factors that affect your own use and location:

  • Coverage and signal consistency where you live, work and travel.
  • Data performance where you actually use the connection.
  • Package prices, allowances and renewal terms for your usage.
  • Customer-service options and any number, account or service migration implications.

The reported market-share movements do not rank operators on these criteria.
