Oracle’s workforce did shrink by roughly 21,000 full-time employees in the year ended May 31, 2026, even as the company poured tens of billions of dollars into cloud and artificial-intelligence infrastructure. That is the verified figure—not a confirmed 30,000-person layoff.
The larger number came from an analyst estimate reported before Oracle published its annual headcount. Reports also described termination emails sent on March 31, 2026, but Oracle has not disclosed how many employees were included in that particular round. Its annual reduction covers the full fiscal year and may include layoffs, attrition, reorganizations, acquisitions and other workforce changes.
What happened at Oracle?
Oracle reported approximately 141,000 full-time employees as of May 31, 2026, compared with approximately 162,000 a year earlier. That represents a net decline of about 21,000 employees, or 13%.
The 30,000 figure should therefore be treated as an estimate rather than Oracle’s final layoff count. It is also inaccurate to describe all 21,000 fewer employees as confirmed layoffs. How much did Oracle’s restructuring cost?

Oracle is simultaneously expanding its infrastructure business. Cloud-infrastructure revenue rose 77% in fiscal 2026, and the company is investing heavily to serve AI-related demand. That combination—rapid capital spending alongside a smaller workforce—suggests a shift in where Oracle is allocating resources. It does not establish a one-for-one trade between jobs eliminated and data-center dollars spent.
What the Oracle cuts mean for workers and investors
For workers
Employees in functions affected by restructuring or automation may face greater job risk, particularly where AI can handle repetitive support, administrative, development or analysis tasks.
