Onyx’s latest sweepstakes rules exclude 16 states, but its sweepstakes, games, and sports-event trading do not share one universal availability list.

Onyx’s latest Sweepstakes Rules say the sweepstakes is open to U.S. residents age 18 or older except in Alabama, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee, Washington, and West Virginia, and wherever participation is otherwise prohibited. The rules are version 2.1.2, dated September 29, 2026. This is Onyx’s stated eligibility list for its sweepstakes—not an independent legal ruling that every Onyx product is authorized in every other state.

States excluded from the Onyx sweepstakes

According to Onyx Games LLC’s September 29, 2026 Sweepstakes Rules, residents of these states cannot enter the sweepstakes:

  • Alabama
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Idaho
  • Indiana
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Michigan
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Tennessee
  • Washington
  • West Virginia

The rules also exclude places where participation is otherwise prohibited. They require participants to be U.S. residents and at least 18 years old. Onyx’s rules state, “NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.”

Why Onyx’s state lists do not all match

Onyx publishes eligibility and access information in several documents, and they do not describe one interchangeable list for every product.

Onyx source Date What it establishes
Sweepstakes Rules, version 2.1.2 September 29, 2026 The sweepstakes residency, age, and state exclusions listed above.
Terms of Use, version 2.1.1 August 7, 2026 Terms for the broader service, including restricted-territory language that does not exactly match the sweepstakes exclusions.
“Where Can I Use Onyx?” help article September 26, 2025 An older availability list describing 40-plus available states and 13 unavailable states, plus location verification.
Onyx homepage Accessed October 8, 2026 States that offerings vary by state, but displays inconsistent state-list copy in different sections.

The newer sweepstakes rules exclude California, Indiana, and Maine, among other states, despite differences from the older help article. For a sweepstakes entry, use the current sweepstakes rules rather than carrying forward an older help-page list. The homepage’s conflicting lists are not a reliable substitute for product-specific rules.

“Onyx Odds” can refer to different products

Availability depends on what you intend to use. Onyx’s official materials distinguish its games and promotions from sports-event trading, so a statement about one offering should not be treated as permission to use every service.

  • Sweepstakes and games: The latest sweepstakes rules provide the exclusion list above. Onyx’s Terms of Use describe games and promotions as entertainment and state that the service does not offer real-money gambling.
  • Sports-event trading: The Terms of Use separately describe trading through Onyx Predictions LLC, identified as an introducing broker, and NinjaTrader Clearing LLC. The sweepstakes state list does not establish where this trading product is available or authorized.

The Terms of Use place responsibility for legal compliance on users and say Onyx cannot provide legal advice or assurances. Neither the terms nor the sweepstakes rules amount to a state-by-state determination by a regulator or court.

How to check your eligibility before using Onyx

  1. Identify the product. Determine whether you mean the sweepstakes, another Onyx game or promotion, or Onyx Predictions sports-event trading.
  2. Read the current rules for that product. For the sweepstakes, check the latest version of the Onyx Sweepstakes Rules and confirm the date; the version reviewed here is 2.1.2, dated September 29, 2026.
  3. Check your location in the app. Onyx’s help article says it verifies users’ locations and that a person in an unavailable state cannot play until returning to an eligible state. That article was updated in 2025, so treat it as location-check guidance, not as a replacement for current rules.
  4. Recheck when traveling or if access changes. Location restrictions can affect whether you can use an offering, and Onyx says its offerings vary by state. Follow the current product rules and the app’s location result.

Being able to access an app, or appearing on an older availability list, does not by itself establish that a particular product is legally authorized for you. If you need a legal determination about your circumstances, consult a qualified attorney or the relevant state regulator.
