Those figures are one publisher’s estimate and forecast—not an audited industry total. Mobile access is part of the growth narrative, but the published figures do not establish what share of platform use happens on phones.
What does the $18.18 billion forecast mean?
Mordor Intelligence’s 2026 report estimates the market at $11.65 billion in 2025, then $12.57 billion in 2026, and projects $18.18 billion by 2031. Its stated 7.66% CAGR covers 2026–2031. The 2031 amount is a forecast, not a measurement of revenue already earned.
Mordor says it generated the figures using a proprietary estimation framework updated with data and insights available in 2026. The public report page does not provide enough detail to independently reproduce the estimate. Treat it as a market-research publisher’s model, not a universally accepted accounting of all trading-platform revenue. See Mordor Intelligence’s market report.
Why do market forecasts differ?
Forecasts can vary because publishers use different market definitions, data, methods, base years, and forecast periods. A projection to 2034 is not directly interchangeable with one ending in 2031; the endpoints and growth intervals matter.
#1 Best Overall
| Publisher and report year | 2025 estimate | 2026 estimate | Forecast endpoint | Reported CAGR |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mordor Intelligence, 2026 | $11.65 billion | $12.57 billion | $18.18 billion by 2031 | 7.66% for 2026–2031 |
| Fortune Business Insights, 2026 | $10.82 billion | $11.57 billion | $18.50 billion by 2034 | 6.00% for 2026–2034 |
Fortune Business Insights’ figures come from its own forecast, with a different endpoint and CAGR interval. Its $18.50 billion projection for 2034 does not contradict Mordor’s $18.18 billion projection for 2031 simply because the two figures describe different years and models. Read Fortune Business Insights’ market report.
Does the forecast show that mobile apps are becoming the main way people trade?
Not by itself. Mobile access may be an important part of the market’s growth story, but the cited market estimates do not provide a comparable percentage for trading-platform use on smartphones or tablets. They therefore cannot establish that mobile is the dominant channel.

- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
Mordor estimates that retail investors made up 69.59% of the market’s application segment in 2025. That is a share of a market segment—not a share of trades made on mobile apps. It forecasts an 8.43% CAGR for that retail-investor segment through 2031.
Similarly, an older Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing filing says retail investors accounted for approximately 47.4% of global securities-market trading volume in 2021, up from 39.6% in 2017, and projected 48.8% for 2026. This measures trading volume, not online-platform market revenue or mobile use; the 2026 figure was a projection in a 2022 filing, not a confirmed result. It is useful background, but it does not validate Mordor’s 2025 segment estimate. See HKEX’s 2022 filing.

What do the estimates say about cloud and regional growth?
Cloud deployment
Mordor estimates cloud deployment represented 63.42% of the market’s deployment segment in 2025 and forecasts 8.51% CAGR for that segment through 2031. This is a deployment measure; it does not indicate the proportion of investors trading through mobile apps.
Regional outlook
In Mordor’s 2025 estimate, North America accounted for 33.87% of market revenue, the largest regional share. Asia-Pacific is forecast to grow fastest, at a 9.03% CAGR through 2031. These are different claims: North America leads by estimated current share, while Asia-Pacific leads by projected growth rate.

How should investors use this market forecast?
- Read it as an industry outlook. A projected market total is not a forecast of any individual broker’s revenue, profitability, or investment returns.
- Keep the denominators separate. Platform-market revenue, retail application share, deployment share, securities trading volume, and mobile usage are different measures.
- Compare like with like. Check each publisher’s market definition, base year, forecast endpoint, CAGR interval, and method before comparing totals.
- Do not treat forecasts as guarantees. The 2031 value depends on assumptions in a proprietary model, and the cited public page does not disclose enough detail to independently recreate it.
