It offers paid trading evaluations, simulated funded accounts, and a path to requesting profit withdrawals. But that does not make it equivalent to a brokerage, employer, or guaranteed source of income. The account sizes advertised by OneUp Trader represent trading limits inside its program—not cash deposited in your name—and payouts depend on the plan’s drawdown, consistency, trading-day, identity-verification, and conduct rules.
The practical verdict is legitimate but high-risk. OneUp Trader may suit an experienced futures trader who has a tested strategy and carefully reads the current agreement. It is a poor fit for someone hoping to turn a small evaluation fee into easy access to tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
What OneUp Trader actually sells
OneUp Trader is a futures proprietary-trading evaluation business. A typical customer pays for an evaluation, trades through a supported futures platform in a simulated environment, and attempts to satisfy the selected account’s rules. A trader who passes may receive access to a simulated funded account and become eligible to request a share of simulated trading profits.
That distinction matters. A $25,000, $50,000, $100,000, or larger account label generally describes the program’s notional size or risk parameters. It does not mean OneUp Trader wires that amount to your bank account or gives you a conventional brokerage account containing that balance.

Like other futures evaluation firms, OneUp Trader can use simulated trading for most or all of the initial stages. The firm may decide whether and when a trader is moved to a live account. A successful evaluation therefore does not create an unconditional right to trade real capital.
Is OneUp Trader a scam?
There is an important difference between “not a scam” and “low risk.” A scam normally involves deliberate deception, nonexistent services, or taking money without providing the advertised product. OneUp Trader has operated as a recognizable futures evaluation provider with published rules, trading-platform access, account plans, and a payout process. That is evidence of an operating business, not proof that every customer will receive every payout they expect.
The more realistic concern is contract and payout risk. The firm’s agreement controls eligibility, and the company may review trading activity before approving a withdrawal. A trader can make money on a dashboard yet still fail to qualify because of a drawdown breach, a prohibited strategy, an account-ownership issue, an inconsistent trading pattern, or a rule that was changed after older reviews were published.
Before purchasing, read the current Terms of Use, plan rules, payout policy, refund policy, and platform-specific rules. Screenshots from a YouTube review or an old Reddit post are not substitutes for the terms attached to your checkout.
How the OneUp Trader model works
- Select an evaluation. Plans usually differ by notional account size, profit target, maximum loss, permitted contracts, and monthly price.
- Trade the evaluation. You must reach the target without violating the account’s loss limit or other restrictions. Some plans may also require a minimum number of trading days or impose consistency requirements.
- Apply for the funded stage. Passing normally leads to a simulated funded account rather than an account containing the advertised balance in cash.
- Build a withdrawal-eligible balance. Profit may need to exceed a safety buffer, and you may need to complete a stated number of trading days or meet a consistency test.
- Request a payout. OneUp Trader can review the account, verify identity, and check whether the trading activity complied with its agreement.
Rules can vary by account type and purchase date. Confirm the exact version shown in your dashboard; do not assume that a rule described in an older review still applies.
What the advertised account size does—and does not—mean
| Advertised feature | What it usually means | What it does not mean |
|---|---|---|
| $25,000 or $100,000 account | A notional program size used to calculate targets, contracts, and risk limits | Cash you can withdraw or spend |
| Funded account | Access to the firm’s next trading stage, often simulated | A personal brokerage account in your name |
| Profit split | A contractual share of an approved withdrawal | A guarantee that all displayed profits are payable |
| Maximum drawdown | The account’s breach threshold | The amount you should risk on one trade |
| Live-account pathway | A possible move to real-market trading at the firm’s discretion | An automatic entitlement after passing |
The drawdown is the central risk
New traders often focus on the profit target and ignore the maximum drawdown. That is backwards. The drawdown is the amount of adverse movement that can end the account, and the method used to calculate it can materially change the strategy required.
With a trailing drawdown, the breach threshold can rise as the account reaches new highs. Depending on the plan, the calculation may use realized or unrealized gains. If unrealized profit lifts the threshold and the trade then reverses, a trader may breach even though the position was never closed at a loss relative to the starting balance.

For example, suppose an account starts at $50,000 and has a $2,500 trailing loss limit. If the threshold trails the account’s high-water mark, a temporary gain can move the minimum allowable balance upward. A later pullback may then violate the rule before the trader has given back all of the account’s nominal profit.

- whether commissions and fees count toward the loss limit; and
- what happens when the account reaches the target.
Payouts are not automatic
A profitable account is not necessarily a payout-eligible account. Prop firms commonly require some combination of a minimum balance, a safety net, minimum trading days, a consistency rule, identity verification, and compliance with prohibited-conduct rules.
OneUp Trader’s current payout terms should be checked directly because payout limits, waiting periods, profit splits, and requirements can change. Pay particular attention to whether:
- the first withdrawal has a different rule from later withdrawals;
- there is a minimum withdrawal amount;
- a safety buffer must remain in the account;
- profits must be earned across a minimum number of days;
- one unusually large day limits the amount that can be withdrawn;
- the firm can review trading behavior before payment; and
- the account can be closed or reset after a payout request.
Also separate payout approval from money arriving in your bank account. A firm can approve a request before a payment processor, bank, or digital-wallet provider completes settlement.
Trading restrictions to investigate before joining
The most expensive mistakes are often rule violations rather than bad market calls. Check the current plan documentation for the following:

News and economic releases
Some futures firms restrict holding positions through particular news events, while others allow it. If news trading is permitted, execution can still be poor because futures spreads and slippage can widen sharply around releases such as the employment report, CPI, or Federal Reserve decisions.
Overnight and weekend positions
Many evaluation accounts require positions to be closed before a daily session ends. A trader who normally holds crude oil, equity-index, or Treasury futures overnight should not assume that a standard plan supports that approach. Use a plan that expressly permits the holding period you need.

Contract limits and consistency
Verify the maximum number of contracts, whether micros and minis are treated as equivalent exposure, and whether scaling sharply from a small position to a large one can trigger a review. A strategy that passes by placing one oversized trade may not satisfy the firm’s view of sustainable or consistent trading.
Copy trading, automation, and multiple accounts
Copying trades across your own accounts may require an approved tool or may be restricted entirely. Automated strategies, trade copiers, remote access, and trading another person’s account can create compliance problems. Get written approval before using an expert advisor, bot, copier, or automation feature.
Trading during platform or data outages
Futures trading depends on the data feed, order-routing technology, and platform connection. Save support instructions and understand how the firm handles a rejected order, delayed quote, duplicate order, or outage. Never assume a technical problem automatically reverses a breach.
Fees that can make the program expensive
The advertised evaluation price is only one part of the cost. Depending on the plan, a trader may also encounter:
- recurring evaluation fees;
- platform or market-data charges;
- activation fees after passing;
- reset fees after a failed account;
- payment-processing charges; and
- taxes or currency-conversion costs.
Check whether the evaluation renews automatically. If you need more time, a low monthly fee can become expensive after several unsuccessful attempts. Cancel through the actual account dashboard or billing portal and retain the confirmation email.
Do not buy several evaluations simply because the account price looks small. If a trader cannot manage the drawdown on one account with consistent risk, buying more accounts usually multiplies the same failure rather than improving the odds.

A reset is not a free second chance. Add up the evaluation fee, recurring charges, reset costs, activation costs, platform expenses, and the value of your time. That total is the amount at risk before any payout is received.
Platforms and execution
OneUp Trader has been associated with several futures-trading platforms and data-feed choices, but availability and pricing can change. Confirm that your preferred platform is supported for the specific account type before paying. A platform listed on a general marketing page may have different requirements from the platform available at checkout.
Platform access also does not guarantee professional brokerage execution. Simulated fills may differ from live-market fills, particularly during volatile periods. A strategy that depends on extremely fast entries, tiny scalps, or favorable simulated slippage may not transfer well to a live account.

Customer complaints: how to interpret them
Online reviews can reveal recurring points of friction—payout delays, rule interpretations, billing problems, platform outages, or account closures—but reviews do not independently prove either fraud or wrongdoing. Positive reviews may show that some traders were paid; negative reviews may identify a rule that a buyer misunderstood. Neither replaces the contract.
When assessing a complaint, ask:
- Was the account purchased under the same rules currently offered?
- Does the customer provide the account terms and a specific alleged violation?
- Was the complaint about a payout, a refund, a trading loss, or a technical issue?
- Did the firm publish a response or offer an appeal process?
- Could the result depend on a plan-specific rule?
A pattern of unresolved complaints about payout eligibility deserves attention, even though it is not by itself proof that the company is fraudulent.
Who OneUp Trader may suit
OneUp Trader may be reasonable for a trader who:
- already has a documented futures strategy;
- understands contract value, tick value, margin, and slippage;
- can risk the full evaluation cost without borrowing;
- uses small, repeatable position sizes;
- has read the payout and prohibited-conduct rules;
- can trade within the required hours and holding limits; and
- keeps screenshots and records of account activity.
Who should avoid it
Avoid the program if you need guaranteed income, cannot afford to lose the fees, intend to recover losses by increasing size, or are unfamiliar with futures leverage. It is also a poor fit if your strategy relies on overnight gaps, unrestricted news trading, high-frequency automation, aggressive scaling, or copying trades without written confirmation that the method is allowed.
Due-diligence checklist before paying
- Open the exact plan rules from the checkout page.
- Calculate the dollar value of one tick for every contract you may trade.
- Mark the real breach level on your platform, including commissions.
- Confirm whether the drawdown trails unrealized profits.
- Read the payout schedule and safety-net language.
- Check recurring billing and refund conditions.
- Confirm platform, data-feed, and reset costs.
- Ask support for written clarification on any ambiguous rule.
- Use a unique password and enable account security features.
- Treat every fee as money that may be lost.
FAQ
Is OneUp Trader legitimate?
OneUp Trader appears to be an operating futures-prop evaluation business rather than an obvious nonexistent or fraudulent operation. However, its evaluations and funded stages may be simulated, and legitimacy does not guarantee that every profitable account qualifies for a payout.

Does OneUp Trader give you real money to trade?
Usually, the advertised account balance is a notional program figure. Evaluation and funded-stage trading may take place in simulation. Any live-account transition is governed by the firm’s current terms and is not the same as receiving a personal brokerage deposit.
Can you lose more than the evaluation fee?
The firm’s trading account is normally subject to a defined loss limit, but your total financial exposure can include recurring fees, resets, activation charges, platform costs, and taxes. Never trade with money needed for rent, debt payments, or emergency expenses.
Are OneUp Trader payouts guaranteed?
No. A payout normally depends on satisfying the current balance, trading-day, safety-net, identity-verification, and conduct requirements. Approval and bank settlement are separate steps.
Are prop-firm payouts taxable?
They may be taxable, but the treatment depends on your country, business structure, and whether the payment is reported as trading income, contractor income, or another category. Keep payout statements and consult a qualified tax professional.
What should you check before buying a OneUp Trader evaluation?
Check the exact drawdown method, profit target, contract limit, minimum trading days, payout rules, prohibited strategies, news and overnight restrictions, recurring billing, refund policy, activation fees, reset costs, platform fees, and the process for technical disputes.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: OneUp Trader is better described as a real but high-risk futures evaluation business than as a scam or a conventional funding source. The headline account size is not cash, passing is not a guaranteed payout, and the drawdown and compliance rules can matter more than the profit target. Join only if you can explain the breach level and payout conditions in dollars before you trade—and only with money you can afford to lose.
