On Me Raises $6 Million to Rethink Digital Gift Cards

On Me announced a $6 million seed round on December 11, 2025, to expand its digital gifting platform, which lets senders give toward an interest or category rather than choose a single retailer. Its newer product, Choice On Me, shifts that decision to the recipient: the sender funds a gift, then the recipient chooses where to use it.

What On Me does differently

Traditional retailer gift cards tie a gift to one store or brand. On Me instead organizes digital gift cards around interests such as running, reading, camping, gardening, gaming, and concerts. The sender selects a theme; the recipient can then choose among participating retailers within it. For example, the company describes a tennis-themed gift that can be spent on apparel or gear from multiple brands.

On Me says it offers more than 70 interest-based cards and access to more than 2,000 retailers. Those are company-reported figures, not independently verified counts. In an earlier example, the company described a running card usable across HOKA, Nike, Adidas, Reebok, and REI.

Gifts can include personalized notes, photos, video, or GIFs. On Me says its digital cards work through mobile wallets and can be redeemed only at participating merchants, subject to restrictions. Its site says cards are issued by Sutton Bank under a Mastercard license. The company also discloses that it may earn a commission when a recipient redeems a gift at a partner merchant; it says this does not change the gift’s value or the price paid.

#1 Best Overall
Amazon eGift Card - Amazon Logo
  • Amazon.com Gift Cards never expire and carry no fees.
  • Multiple gift card designs and denominations to choose from.
  • Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
  • Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
  • No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.

Choice On Me lets recipients pick the category

Announced on August 26, 2026, Choice On Me addresses a different gifting problem: the sender may know the recipient deserves a gift but not which kind they would prefer. The sender funds the gift, and the recipient chooses where its value lands, with company examples including lunch, travel, technology, self-care, and beauty.

On Me says Choice On Me gifts can be sent by email, text, or Gift Link and spent in store or online through Apple Pay or Google Wallet. Its launch post says gifts start at $10, have no fees, and never expire. These are company-stated terms as of that announcement and may change.

Amazon eGift Card - Happy Birthday
  • Amazon.com Gift Cards never expire and carry no fees.
  • Multiple gift card designs and denominations to choose from.
  • Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
  • Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
  • No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.

The distinction is practical: an interest-based On Me card narrows the gift to a theme while offering multiple merchant choices; Choice On Me gives the recipient the choice of category after the sender pays. Neither description means the gift can be spent anywhere—the company says its cards are tied to participating merchants and applicable restrictions.

What the $6 million round means

On Me said NFX led the $6 million seed round announced December 11, 2025, with Lerer Hippeau and focal also participating. NFX general partner Pete Flint was expected to join the company’s board. The round followed a $1.7 million pre-seed announcement in December 2024. That earlier announcement also described a five-year industry partnership with Mastercard; it does not, by itself, establish the partnership’s current status.

The new capital is intended to support a business built around digital, multi-merchant gifting. NFX’s investment rationale emphasized making gift cards digital, mobile, social, and more engaging for giver and recipient. That is an investor’s endorsement, not an independent assessment of product performance.

Traction claims and market estimates need context

On Me’s December 2025 release said the service had facilitated more than $2.5 million in gifts since launch and helped over 76,000 people send and receive cards. TechCrunch’s report on the same day also cited more than $2.5 million in gifts, but reported more than 26,000 users. The sources do not explain whether the user figures count different groups, time periods, or activity, so they should not be treated as directly comparable or reconciled.

On Me said its corporate gifting solution had attracted dozens of Fortune 500 companies. The company has not named those customers in the cited release, and the figure is not independent evidence of adoption. Its 2026 Choice On Me announcement says the product is also available through its business portal.

Market estimates cited around the funding announcement are not a single settled figure. On Me’s December 2025 release described the U.S. gift-card market as $450 billion and said the global market was expected to reach $2.31 trillion by 2030. NFX’s December 2025 investor post called the industry $447 billion without making the same geographic scope clear in the passage. TechCrunch cited a global-market projection of $2.3 trillion by 2030. These are attributed estimates, not audited measurements, and the sources do not provide a common methodology for comparing them.

What to check before choosing a digital gift

On Me’s model can be useful when a sender wants to give more flexibility than a single-store card, but the details matter. Before buying, check:

  • Choice: Does the sender select the interest or category, or does the recipient choose it after receiving the gift?
  • Merchant coverage: Which participating retailers accept the gift, and are there merchant-specific or product restrictions?
  • Redemption: Can the recipient pay online, in store, or through a mobile wallet? Confirm that the retailer and wallet support the intended use.
  • Fees and expiry: Review the terms at purchase. Choice On Me’s launch post said no fees and no expiry, but those are company-stated terms that can change.
  • Delivery and personalization: Check available delivery methods and whether the sender can add a note, image, video, or GIF.
  • Business use: Individual gifting and bulk corporate gifting may have different workflows; On Me points business customers to its business portal.

On Me’s funding announcement frames the product as a digital alternative to conventional gift cards. Its CEO, Darragh Meaney, called traditional gift cards “an environmentally wasteful practice” in a December 11, 2025 TechCrunch report. That is his characterization; the available reporting does not establish a verified environmental impact figure for On Me or for gift cards generally.
