Federal immigration agents executed a search warrant at Glenn Valley Foods in Omaha on June 10, 2025. The company’s president said the next day that about 30% of its staff had returned to work and its output was roughly 20% of normal; the Associated Press reported a separate estimate of about 30% capacity from the owner. Those figures describe the immediate aftermath, not the plant’s current operations. The episode prompted concern about labor and food production, but reporting did not establish a nationwide shortage caused by the raid.
What happened at Glenn Valley Foods
On June 10, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and federal law-enforcement partners executed a federal search warrant at Glenn Valley Foods, 6824 J St. in Omaha. ICE said the warrant was part of an ongoing criminal investigation into the large-scale employment of people unauthorized to work in the United States. The Department of Homeland Security described the operation as likely Nebraska’s largest worksite enforcement action since the administration began. Nebraska Public Media’s June 10 report and the Nebraska Examiner’s account quoted the agency’s explanation.
The warrant and investigation were the agency’s stated basis for the operation. The company, in turn, said it used E-Verify and was not charged with a crime. Those are separate positions: the company’s statement does not determine the investigation’s outcome or establish the work authorization of every employee.
How many people were detained—and what does the 97 figure mean?
Contemporaneous reports put the number detained in the 70s, but the estimates came from different sources. They should not be combined with a separate figure about suspected false documents.

The differing detention estimates reflect separate attributions in early reporting. The reports cited here do not establish how many people were ultimately charged, released, or otherwise resolved their cases.
Why the company said it was shocked
Glenn Valley said it continuously used E-Verify as part of its hiring process. The owner told the Associated Press he was upset and shocked because the company had been told to use the system and had done so. The company also said, “Our company is not being charged with any crime.” MEAT+POULTRY reported the company’s statement.

E-Verify is part of the company’s account of its hiring practices; it is not, by itself, a ruling on the status of each worker or the merits of the federal investigation. ICE described the search as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into employment of people unauthorized to work. The cited June 2025 reporting does not provide a later investigation outcome.
What the raid did to staffing and production
The available figures capture the immediate disruption, and they measure different things. Reuters reported Hartmann’s estimate that about 30% of staff were at work on June 11 and output was around 20% of normal. The Associated Press separately reported owner Gary Rohwer’s estimate that the plant was operating at about 30% capacity that day, and that the company was trying to hire workers. Staffing, output, and capacity are not interchangeable measures, so the AP figure should not be treated as a correction to Reuters’ account.

These were attributed snapshots from the day after the operation. The reporting cited here does not establish Glenn Valley’s current staffing, production level, or whether the immediate disruption persisted.
Why the incident raised food-production concerns
The direct production effect documented in the June 2025 reports was at Glenn Valley. Industry participants also raised concerns about what worksite enforcement could mean for labor availability and meat processing more broadly, but those concerns were not evidence that this single operation caused a national shortage.

Reuters quoted Nebraska commodity broker Matt Wiegand saying there would be nervousness about where the labor situation went next. Reuters also reported that the Center for Economic and Policy Research estimated more than half of U.S. meatpacking workers were immigrants, but the underlying CEPR publication and its date were not identified in the report reviewed here. The estimate therefore needs that attribution and qualification rather than being presented as a fully verified current statistic. Reuters’ report describes the wider industry concern.

Reporting described fear, protests, and local disruption after the operation. Nebraska state Sen. Dunixi Guereca told Nebraska Public Media, “People are scared, and rightfully so.” The Associated Press reported that a community-college campus, a library branch, and several businesses closed temporarily. AP also noted that nearly one quarter of residents in the southeastern section of Omaha were foreign-born according to the 2020 Census; that figure refers to that part of the city, not Omaha as a whole.

Rumors circulated about raids at other food-processing sites, including JBS and LALA’s. Nebraska Public Media reported that authorities and businesses had not confirmed another such operation and quoted DHS as saying Glenn Valley was the only ICE action in Omaha that day. The Nebraska Examiner reported that JBS and LALA’s denied being targeted. The contemporaneous reporting therefore supports one confirmed Omaha operation that day, not claims that multiple plants were raided.
