General availability followed on March 12. In the United States, access was more restricted: the $349 black 12GB/256GB model was offered through Nothing’s Developer Program, not a broad retail or carrier launch.
March 5 was the announcement date; sales followed in stages
Nothing confirmed its March 5 launch event in February, then used the event to announce the finished phone, specifications, prices, colors, and market availability. The announcement date and the date the public could buy the device were not the same everywhere.
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| February 13, 2024 | Nothing confirmed the March 5 Phone (2a) launch event. 9to5Google reported the event confirmation. |
| March 5, 2024 | Nothing officially unveiled the phone. Preorders opened at 12:30 GMT for most global customers; some markets and sales channels also had open-sale activity that day. Nothing’s launch announcement and Android Central’s launch coverage describe the regional arrangements. |
| March 12, 2024 | Public sales began in most global markets through Nothing and partner retailers. U.S. Developer Program sign-up also opened; accepted participants received a purchase link. |
So “launched on March 5” is accurate if it means the official reveal and initial preorder activity. It does not mean the phone went on sale to everyone worldwide that day. For a U.S. buyer, the date marked the start of a limited application-based route, not a normal retail release.

What U.S. buyers needed to know
The U.S. offer was limited to a black 12GB/256GB model for $349 through Nothing’s Developer Program. Interested buyers had to sign up, be accepted, and receive a purchase link. That process was materially different from ordinary open retail or carrier availability. The launch announcement and TechRadar’s review describe the U.S. limitation.

Contemporaneous reviews commonly praised the distinctive design, OLED screen, battery capacity, clean software, and value. They also pointed to camera consistency and the lack of flagship-level features as trade-offs. Engadget, Tom’s Guide, Android Central, and TechRadar assessed the phone after launch; their regional prices may differ.

The hardware and launch positioning made the Phone (2a) a more natural fit for some priorities than others:
- Consider it if: you want Nothing’s design and Glyph lighting, a large high-refresh OLED display, a high-capacity battery, and relatively clean software in a supported market.
- Look elsewhere if: you need wireless charging, telephoto zoom, flagship-level camera consistency, or a compact handset. Its 6.7-inch display makes it a large phone.
- Check carefully before importing: network-band compatibility, warranty region, return terms, taxes and import fees, charger configuration, and software-update eligibility can vary.
The launch also included an offer of up to one year of Perplexity Pro for eligible purchases made from March 5 through March 19, 2024. That was a time-limited promotion, not an ongoing purchase benefit.
