Yes, Nintendo Switch 2’s Canadian MSRP rose by C$50, from C$629.99 to C$679.99, effective September 1, 2026. But Nintendo’s May 2026 announcement says the original Nintendo Switch system’s price is not changing in this revision. The older Switch family had a separate Canadian price update in 2025.
What changed in Canada—and what did not
Nintendo announced on May 7, 2026, that the Switch 2 system’s Canadian manufacturer’s suggested retail price would increase from C$629.99 to C$679.99 on September 1, 2026. That effective date has passed. The C$50 increase is about 7.9% of the former MSRP.

The same announcement says, “Pricing for the Nintendo Switch system is not changing.” In other words, this 2026 revision applies to the Switch 2 system, not the original Switch system. Nintendo’s announcement does not give a new price for the older console. Nintendo’s Canadian price-revision notice is the source for the MSRP and scope.
Why Nintendo says the price went up
Nintendo attributed the change to “various changes in market conditions, which are expected to extend over the medium to long term.” The company did not identify particular cost drivers or quantify how much any one factor contributed. That statement is Nintendo’s explanation, not a detailed breakdown of the increase.

How this differs from the 2025 update to older Switch products
There was a separate Canadian pricing announcement on June 30, 2025. It covered original Switch family products and related items, rather than the Switch 2 system. Nintendo’s notice named the OLED model, standard Switch and Switch Lite, as well as physical and digital Switch games, accessories, amiibo and Nintendo Switch Online memberships. At the time, Nintendo explicitly excluded Switch 2 systems, accessories and software from that update.
So the two announcements should not be conflated: the 2025 update applied to specified original Switch family products, while the September 2026 change raised the Switch 2 system MSRP and said original Switch system pricing was not changing in that announcement. Nintendo’s 2025 Canadian pricing notice and April 2025 Switch 2 launch-period notice provide the earlier context.

MSRP is not necessarily the price you will pay
C$679.99 is Nintendo’s Canadian MSRP for the Switch 2 system, not a guarantee that every retailer charges that amount. Retailers set their own prices, and stock or promotions can affect the amount available to a buyer. Compare current Canadian listings and confirm the product is the console you intend to buy before relying on an advertised price. The historical C$629.99 standalone figure and C$699.99 Mario Kart World bundle price were launch-period MSRPs reported in April 2025, not verified current offers.
For games, format and title matter too. Nintendo Support says that new Nintendo-published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 would begin having an MSRP different from physical counterparts starting with preorders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book in May 2026. Nintendo says format costs are reflected and retail partners set their own prices. That is a separate game-pricing policy; Nintendo did not present it as the reason for the console MSRP increase. See Nintendo Support’s explanation of Switch 2 game pricing.

What to check before budgeting for a Switch 2
- Identify the product: distinguish a Switch 2 system from the original Switch, and distinguish the console from games, accessories and subscriptions.
- Check the date and seller: compare current Canadian retailer listings rather than treating an older Nintendo MSRP or launch price as today’s street price.
- For games, compare like with like: check the specific title and whether the listing is physical or digital.
- Separate required spending from optional add-ons: Nintendo’s April 2025 accessory prices were launch-period MSRPs, not current verified prices. Do not use that historical list as a present-day accessory budget.
