Nintendo’s original Japan-only Nintendo Switch 2 preorder lottery drew about 2.2 million applications ahead of the console’s June 5, 2025 launch, but that figure was not a count of consoles sold or a measure of every buyer left waiting. As of October 8, 2026, Nintendo has announced a different Japan-only offer: a choose-your-game bundle due November 12, with reservations being accepted through Nintendo Store. That announcement does not establish live stock at individual stores.
Is the Nintendo Switch 2 sold out in Japan?
The headline describes the intense preorder rush before the 2025 launch, not a verified claim that every Japanese retailer is sold out today. Nintendo’s lottery received about 2.2 million applications, according to the Associated Press’s June 5, 2025 report. Some retailers also held their own lotteries. Applications indicate extraordinary demand, but they do not tell us how many consoles were available, how many were sold, or how many Japanese buyers still want one. Associated Press, June 5, 2025.

How could you preorder a Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan?
For the original Japan-only Japanese-Language System, Nintendo announced a June 5, 2025 release at ¥49,980, including tax. Nintendo’s lottery and retailer lotteries were launch-period purchase routes; they are not evidence of an open lottery now. Nintendo, April 2, 2025.

Where can you buy a Japan-only Switch 2 now?
Nintendo Store is the confirmed reservation route for the November bundle. Nintendo says other Japanese game retailers and online shops are expected to take reservations as they are ready, but it does not provide a complete live list or current stock figures. Check Nintendo Store and the individual retailer’s current listing before paying or placing a reservation.
When comparing listings, verify that the product is explicitly the Japan-only Japanese-Language System or the Japan-only bundle, rather than assuming every Nintendo Switch 2 listing has the same model, language configuration, price, or included game. The available announcements do not establish the restrictions or terms for each seller’s listing.

How to compare the two Japan-only offers
- Choose the original system listing if you are looking for the console alone; its ¥49,980 figure is the announced 2025 launch price, not a verified current price.
- Consider the November bundle if you want one of its three included digital games and can use the download code before its March 31, 2027 expiry.
- Compare the final amount and seller terms. The bundle’s announced tax-included price is ¥63,980; any current seller price, stock status, reservation conditions, and delivery timing must be checked with that seller.
