Nintendo postponed the planned April 9, 2025 Canadian preorder start for Switch 2. It later announced that in-store preorders would begin April 24, 2025. The console’s announced June 5, 2025 launch date was separate and was not changed by the preorder delay.
Why were Canadian preorders delayed?
Nintendo of Canada said preorders would not begin on April 9, 2025, “in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.” The statement was reported by MobileSyrup. At that point, U.S. preorder timing had yet to be determined.

When did Canadian preorders begin?
Nintendo later announced that in-store preorders in Canada would begin April 24, 2025. The date appeared in a Nintendo of Canada news update. That official update was published in French; its announcement specifies the Canadian in-store preorder date.
Was the Switch 2 launch delayed too?
No. The preorder change did not alter the announced launch date. Nintendo’s investor relations release listed June 5, 2025 as the Nintendo Switch 2 release date. A preorder date and a product’s release date are separate events.

The headline of Nintendo’s Canadian update said the company maintained the Nintendo Switch 2 price. That historical statement does not establish the console’s current price or what any particular retailer charges today.
