A physical copy of Mario Kart World is listed at €89.99 in Europe and $79.99 in the United States, according to Nintendo Life’s regional price guide. Converting the European price into dollars may produce an amount near $98 at a particular exchange rate, but that is not the U.S. retail price. The two figures are prices for different markets, not a single price translated at checkout.
What the $98 figure means
The “up to $98” claim is best understood as an approximate currency conversion of a European physical-game price. The named example is Mario Kart World: Nintendo Life’s September 2, 2026 guide lists the physical edition at €89.99 in Europe and $79.99 in the United States. The exact exchange-rate source, date, and rounding method behind the approximate $98 conversion are not established.

That distinction matters when budgeting. A converted amount is not evidence that a U.S. store charges $98, nor does it establish a standard price for every Switch 2 game. Nintendo Life says prices vary by publisher, developer, and format, and lists a lower physical-game price example for Donkey Kong Bananza.
Compare the same game, market, and format
| Listing | Price | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Mario Kart World, physical, Europe | €89.99 | Regional physical-game price listed by Nintendo Life on September 2, 2026. |
| Mario Kart World, physical, United States | $79.99 | Separate U.S. regional price listed by Nintendo Life on September 2, 2026; it is not the euro price converted into dollars. |
| Mario Kart World, Nintendo eShop, France | €79.99 | Digital eShop listing on Nintendo France’s June 5, 2025 launch-week page; this is not the physical edition price. |
These prices come from different markets, formats, and dates, so they are not interchangeable. Nintendo’s official French eShop listing gives €79.99 for the digital game, while Nintendo Life reports €89.99 for the physical copy. The eShop figure does not confirm the physical price.

Why physical and digital prices can differ
Nintendo says that, beginning in May 2026, new Nintendo-published games exclusive to Switch 2 will have digital MSRPs that differ from their physical versions. The company says the difference reflects the costs of producing and distributing each format, and that retail partners set their own prices while title prices may vary. Its policy statement describes the change as offering more choice in how players buy and play games. It does not establish that every title has the same price gap or that every retailer charges the MSRP.
For a current purchase, check the listing for the specific title and confirm whether it is a game card or a digital download. Compare prices within the same country and account for any tax or retailer pricing shown at checkout. A currency conversion alone does not tell you the local price a retailer will charge.

What Switch 2 owners can buy
Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 launch announcement says Switch 2 accepts game cards from both the Switch 2 and original Switch generations and plays Switch games, with some software limitations or titles that are unsupported. That means a Switch 2 owner may encounter prices for both generations of physical games; compatibility should be checked for a specific older title rather than assumed.
