Starting in May 2026, Nintendo will set separate suggested prices for new digital games it publishes that are exclusive to Switch 2. For the U.S. launch example, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is reported at $59.99 digitally and $69.99 physically—a $10 difference. That gap applies to this title, not necessarily to every game.
Which Switch 2 games are covered?
Nintendo says the different pricing begins with May 2026 preorders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. The policy is for new digital titles published by Nintendo and exclusive to Switch 2. It should not be assumed to cover third-party games, existing releases, or every game available on the console. Nintendo’s U.S. support page describes the policy; Nintendo Australia’s policy page communicates a matching change using the term “SRP.”

How much cheaper is the digital version of Yoshi?
For the U.S. example, Game Informer reported a $59.99 digital MSRP and a $69.99 physical MSRP for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, a $10 difference. Nintendo’s U.S. store search listing also showed the digital game at its regular $59.99 price. These are U.S. prices for one title, not a worldwide price list or a guaranteed gap for future releases. Game Informer’s report provides the comparison, and Nintendo’s U.S. store listing supports the digital price.
Will digital always cost $10 less?
No fixed difference is established. Nintendo says pricing may vary by title, so the Yoshi example does not establish a $10 discount for other releases. Nintendo also says retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games. A sale on a physical copy could therefore make it cheaper than the digital version’s suggested price. Compare the current prices available to you rather than relying only on the format’s MSRP.

Why is Nintendo pricing the formats differently?
Nintendo says packaged and digital games offer the same experience, and that the distinction reflects different costs associated with producing and distributing each format. That is Nintendo’s stated rationale; the company’s statement does not provide a breakdown of those costs. The policy creates separate suggested prices, but it does not establish that every physical price is being raised or every digital price cut.

How to compare the versions before buying
- Check the game’s eligibility: the announced policy concerns new Nintendo-published games exclusive to Switch 2.
- Compare prices in your region: the $59.99 and $69.99 figures are for the U.S. Yoshi example; they should not be treated as global prices. Nintendo’s Australia page confirms a regional policy statement but does not provide a complete country-by-country price comparison.
- Separate suggested prices from sale prices: retailers set their own prices, so check the physical and digital offers available at the time you buy.
- Choose the format based on your priorities: Nintendo says the gameplay experience is the same in packaged and digital formats. The available policy information does not establish differences in resale, lending, storage, or access terms.
