Nintendo’s Canadian price update for the original Switch family was announced in 2025, not newly announced in 2026. MobileSyrup reported that the revised prices took effect on August 1, 2025, including increases for Switch Lite and Switch OLED. The separate Canadian price increase announced in 2026 applied to Switch 2.

When did original Nintendo Switch prices go up in Canada?

Nintendo of Canada announced a pricing update on June 30, 2025, for the original Switch family and related products. The announcement covered Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite, physical and digital games, and accessories, and attributed the update to market conditions. It did not publish a revised price table in the cited notice. Nintendo of Canada’s June 30, 2025 announcement.

MobileSyrup reported on August 1, 2025, that the revised prices had taken effect. Its reported examples were:

Model Previously reported price Reported price after update Source and date
Switch Lite C$259.99 C$279.99 MobileSyrup, August 1, 2025
Switch OLED C$449.99 C$489.99 MobileSyrup, August 1, 2025
Standard Switch Not stated in the cited reporting Not stated in the cited reporting MobileSyrup, August 1, 2025

These are figures reported by MobileSyrup, not prices listed in Nintendo’s June announcement. The available figures do not establish a complete new price list for the standard console, every game, or accessories. MobileSyrup’s August 1, 2025 report.

Why did Nintendo change the Canadian prices?

Nintendo’s stated rationale for the 2025 Canadian update was market conditions. Its cited announcement does not provide a more specific explanation, so it does not establish whether exchange rates, tariffs, component costs, or another factor drove the changes. Nintendo of Canada’s announcement.

How does the 2026 price news differ?

Nintendo’s May 8, 2026 notice set a Canadian Switch 2 increase from C$629.99 to C$679.99, effective September 1, 2026. The original Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lite changes in that notice were for Japan, effective May 25, 2026—not Canada. Nintendo described the overseas revisions broadly in terms of longer-term changes in market conditions; that statement is separate from its explanation for the 2025 Canadian update. Which original Switch model fits your use?

Best Buy’s category guide describes the standard Switch as supporting handheld, tabletop, and TV play; OLED is aimed at players who prioritize its larger screen; and Switch Lite is handheld-only. These are practical distinctions, not price recommendations: compare the exact model, condition, bundle contents, and current seller price rather than treating one listing as the national price for every version.
