NICL’s 2023–24 recruitment advertised 274 Administrative Officer (Scale I) vacancies, but the online application window ran from January 2 to January 22, 2024, and is now closed. The National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) notice set the eligibility, fees and selection process for that campaign; the details below describe the original advertisement, not an open application.
What the NICL AO 2023–24 notice advertised
NICL advertised 274 Administrative Officer (Scale I) positions across Generalist and Specialist disciplines. The advertisement described the vacancy figures as provisional and reserved the company’s right to vary them. The advertised category totals were:
| Discipline | Vacancies listed |
|---|---|
| Generalist | 130 |
| Generalist backlog | 2 |
| Doctors (MBBS) | 28 |
| Legal | 20 |
| Finance | 30 |
| Actuarial | 2 |
| Information Technology | 20 |
| Automobile Engineering | 20 |
| Hindi (Rajbhasha) Officers | 22 |
The figures add up to 274: 132 Generalist positions including backlog and 142 Specialist positions. Reservation and category-level vacancies were subject to applicable government rules; the notice also qualified EWS reservation by relevant directives and litigation. See the NICL recruitment advertisement for the full category breakdown and its terms.
Application dates and fee
Online registration and fee payment were open from January 2 through January 22, 2024, inclusive. Applications were accepted online only. As the notice put it: “Candidates should apply through On-Line mode only. No other means/mode of application will be accepted.” The application period has ended.

Eligibility depended on the chosen discipline
Age limit
The general age range was 21 to 30 years as of December 1, 2023. NICL defined that range as a date of birth from December 2, 1993, through December 1, 2002, inclusive. The notice provided upper-age relaxations, including five years for SC/ST candidates, three years for OBC non-creamy-layer candidates and ten years for PwBD candidates, alongside other categories and conditions. Applicants would need to meet the relevant category rules in the advertisement.
Rank #2
Education and qualifying marks
Educational qualifications were assessed as of December 1, 2023, and candidates needed to have passed the qualifying examination by that date. Many degree routes required at least 60% marks, or 55% for SC/ST candidates, but both the accepted credential and marks requirement varied by discipline.
- Generalist: Graduation or postgraduation in any stream from a recognized university, subject to the notice’s marks requirement.
- Legal: A law degree meeting the specified marks threshold.
- Finance: Specified Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant, B.Com or M.Com pathways, with requirements varying by credential.
- Actuarial: A degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science or another specified quantitative discipline, subject to the marks requirement.
- Information Technology and Automobile Engineering: The specified engineering or technology qualifications and marks.
- Doctors (MBBS): The medical qualifications and valid medical registration described in the notice.
- Hindi (Rajbhasha): Several master’s-degree pathways involving Hindi and English subject or examination-medium requirements.
These examples are not a substitute for checking the complete discipline-by-discipline eligibility table in the official recruitment advertisement. A general graduation qualification did not qualify applicants for every Specialist post.

Exam pattern and selection stages
Generalist and Specialist candidates
For disciplines other than Hindi (Rajbhasha), the notice described a two-phase online examination:
- Phase I preliminary exam: An objective test worth 100 marks covering English Language, Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Aptitude, with separate timings for each section.
- Phase II main exam: An objective test worth 250 marks plus a 30-mark descriptive English test. Specialist candidates also sat an objective professional-knowledge section.
- Interview: Candidates were shortlisted under the exam rules stated in the notice. For Generalist and Specialist candidates, the final score weighted the main examination at 80% and the interview at 20%.
The advertisement stated that NICL could set qualifying marks and reserved the right to modify the examination structure with notice.
Rank #4
Hindi (Rajbhasha) Officers
Hindi Officers had a distinct single-phase online written examination rather than the preliminary-and-main sequence. It included objective and descriptive Hindi components, including translation and official-language knowledge.

NICL listed a starting basic pay of ₹50,925 and approximate total monthly emoluments of ₹85,000 at metropolitan centres. The ₹85,000 figure was an approximation tied to location, rules and applicable benefits; the notice also described benefits subject to company rules.

The notice specified one year of probation, which could be extended by up to a further year in total. It also required a minimum four-year service period, including probation, and set a minimum five-year stay at the initial posting location. NICL could post or transfer officers anywhere in India according to company requirements.
