New Zealand’s Financial Markets Authority (FMA) warned on 29 January 2019 that it was concerned TradeFinTech “may be operating a scam”. The warning relates to the trading name TradeFinTech and the website www.tradefintech.com.
The warning remains available in the FMA’s online library, but it is a historical warning—not a new 2026 announcement. The FMA did not publish a court finding, identify the company’s ultimate owners or state that it had ordered the website to close.
What the FMA warning says
The FMA advised New Zealand residents to exercise caution before dealing with TradeFinTech. Its warning identifies:
- the name TradeFinTech;
- the website tradefintech.com;
- five telephone numbers; and
- the email address [email protected].
The regulator’s wording matters. It said it was concerned that TradeFinTech “may be operating a scam”. That is a regulatory warning and an instruction to be cautious. It is not, by itself, a court judgment that fraud had been proved.

What the warning does not establish
The FMA page does not identify a registered corporate entity, directors, country of incorporation, licence number or specific statutory breach. It also does not say that:
- a New Zealand court found TradeFinTech guilty of fraud;
- the FMA obtained a criminal conviction or civil judgment;
- the FMA ordered the domain to close;
- the FMA established who ultimately owned or controlled the business; or
- every business using the TradeFinTech name today is the same operation.
The warning’s continued presence in the FMA’s warnings and alerts library should not be confused with a new investigation or an updated warning. The FMA says its list is not exhaustive and warns that businesses or individuals may change names.
A separate UK warning
On 23 May 2018, the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) issued a separate warning about “Fintech Technologies trading as Tradefintech.com”.
The FCA said the firm was not authorised by it and was targeting people in the UK. It also warned that customers would not have access to the UK Financial Ombudsman Service or Financial Services Compensation Scheme protection.

Several telephone numbers listed by the FCA substantially overlap with those in the FMA warning. The FCA warning is a separate UK regulatory statement, however. It should not be presented as proof that the FMA made the same finding under New Zealand law.
What a 2023 Malta decision records
A decision issued by Malta’s Office of the Arbiter for Financial Services on 6 June 2023 records a complaint involving payments to Tradefintech. According to the decision, the complainant made 18 transactions totalling £65,400 between 10 April and 13 June 2018.
The decision records that payments were made to www.tradefintech.com, which was described in the proceeding as being operated by S.O. Strategic Partnership LP under the trade name Tradefintech.

That record should be read carefully. It does not establish that S.O. Strategic Partnership LP was the same legal entity referred to in the FMA warning. Nor did the Malta Arbiter decide that Tradefintech had committed fraud.
The complaint was against payment service provider Truevo Payments Limited and was dismissed on preliminary jurisdictional grounds. The complainant was not considered an eligible customer under the relevant Maltese legislation. The decision left open the possibility of proceedings elsewhere.
Why the distinction matters for investors
Regulatory warnings, court judgments and customer complaints are different types of evidence:
| Record | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| FMA warning, 29 January 2019 | The FMA was concerned TradeFinTech may be operating a scam and advised New Zealand residents to use caution. | A proven fraud, criminal conviction, identified owner or current investigation. |
| FCA warning, 23 May 2018 | The FCA said the named firm was not authorised by it and was targeting UK consumers. | A finding under New Zealand law or proof that every present-day use of the name is connected. |
| Malta Arbiter decision, 6 June 2023 | A complaint involving 18 payments totalling £65,400 was recorded, and the complaint against Truevo was dismissed on jurisdictional grounds. | A decision that Tradefintech committed fraud or that the payment provider was liable. |
Do not assume the current website is the same operator
The historical FMA warning associates TradeFinTech with tradefintech.com as recorded in 2019. That does not prove who controls the domain now, whether the website has changed hands or whether any current operator is legally connected to the business described in the older warnings.

Anyone considering a payment should independently verify the operator’s legal name, registration details, regulator, licence and withdrawal terms. Do not rely solely on a website’s branding, testimonials, phone number or claims that it is regulated.
If you have already sent money
- Contact your bank or card provider immediately. Explain that you believe the payment may be connected to an investment scam and ask what recovery, chargeback or payment-recall options are available. Speed matters, although recovery is not guaranteed.
- Stop further payments. Be particularly cautious if someone asks for a tax, release fee, verification payment or “recovery” charge before allowing a withdrawal.
- Preserve the evidence. Keep bank statements, card records, wallet addresses, emails, chat messages, telephone numbers, screenshots, contracts and the exact website addresses used.
- Report the matter to the relevant authorities. New Zealand residents can contact the FMA and New Zealand Police. If the payment went through an overseas provider, the provider’s complaints process and the relevant foreign regulator may also be relevant.
- Secure your accounts. Change reused passwords, enable multi-factor authentication and tell your bank if you disclosed online-banking credentials, card details or identity documents.
Do not pay a third party that promises guaranteed recovery of lost funds. Fraud victims are often approached by a second person claiming to be a recovery agent, lawyer or regulator.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Bottom line
The FMA warned in January 2019 that it was concerned TradeFinTech, associated in the warning with tradefintech.com, may be operating a scam. The FCA issued a separate unauthorised-firm warning in 2018, and a Maltese decision later recorded a £65,400 customer complaint without determining that Tradefintech committed fraud.
The safest interpretation is therefore precise: the business attracted warnings from regulators, and potential customers should exercise extreme caution. The available records do not justify saying that the FMA proved fraud, identified the ultimate owners or issued a new warning about the current website.

FAQ
When did New Zealand’s FMA warn about TradeFinTech?
The FMA published its warning on 29 January 2019. It remains in the FMA’s online warnings and alerts library, but its recorded issue date has not changed.
Did the FMA prove that TradeFinTech was a scam?
No. The FMA said it was concerned that TradeFinTech “may be operating a scam” and advised New Zealand residents to exercise caution. That warning is not a court finding or published merits determination that fraud was proved.
Did the FMA say TradeFinTech was unlicensed?
Not on the New Zealand warning page. The separate UK FCA warning said the firm identified as Fintech Technologies trading as Tradefintech.com was not authorised by the FCA. Those are different regulatory statements.
How much money was involved in the Malta complaint?
The Malta Arbiter’s 2023 decision records 18 transactions totalling £65,400, made between 10 April and 13 June 2018. The complaint against Truevo Payments Limited was dismissed on preliminary jurisdictional grounds, and the decision did not determine whether Tradefintech committed fraud.
What should I do if I paid TradeFinTech?
Contact your bank or card provider immediately, ask about recall or chargeback options, stop further payments, preserve all records and report the matter to the relevant authorities. Be wary of anyone demanding an upfront fee to recover your money.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: New Zealand’s FMA warned on 29 January 2019 that TradeFinTech “may be operating a scam”. That is a serious warning, but it is not the same as a court finding of fraud. The FCA issued a separate UK warning in 2018, while a 2023 Malta decision recorded a £65,400 complaint but did not decide that Tradefintech committed fraud.
