How the 266 million-view record was set
Netflix announced on August 26, 2025, that KPop Demon Hunters had passed 236 million views and become its most popular film of all time. A September 3 update, reported by Korea.net the next day, raised the cumulative figure to 266 million. That put the film ahead of the 265.2 million views attributed to Squid Game season one at the time. Korea.net also reported 30.1 million views for the film during the week of August 25–31. How many views does KPop Demon Hunters have now?
Netflix said in June 2026 that the film had passed 600 million cumulative views since its June 20, 2025 debut. It also said the title had appeared in the Top 10 in all 93 countries where Netflix published Top 10 lists and had reached No. 1 in 76. Netflix described it as its most popular original title in its history. These are Netflix-reported figures and claims, with the cumulative total current to that June 2026 announcement. What Netflix means by “views”
Netflix calculates a view by dividing the hours watched by a title’s runtime. It is a runtime-adjusted viewing measure, not a count of unique people: repeat viewing can contribute to hours watched, and the resulting figure cannot be read as the number of individual viewers. Netflix’s half-year engagement reports use a different window: they report views during the specified period. For example, Netflix recorded 482 million views for KPop Demon Hunters in July–December 2025. That is the film’s engagement during those six months, not another cumulative milestone to add to the September figure. What the headline record does—and does not—compare
The September milestone was presented as a record across Netflix films and series, while the August announcement had established a film-only record. Those categories and dates matter: a film can first lead Netflix’s film ranking and later pass a broader title record. Netflix views are also not directly interchangeable with box-office sales, unique audience estimates, song plays, or social-media impressions.

The soundtrack’s popularity is a separate measure. In its July–December 2025 report, Netflix said lyric videos received 32 million views during that reporting period, alongside the film’s 482 million period views. Sing-along screenings
The movie also had a limited North American theatrical event: the Associated Press reported that it played in 1,750 theaters for sing-along screenings on August 23–24, 2025. The AP said studio estimates placed it at the top of that weekend’s North American box office. What the milestone says about the sequel
Netflix announced a sequel in March 2026. Co-director and co-writer Maggie Kang said, “I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” connecting the audience response to the story and its characters rather than to Netflix’s view-count formula.
