Nate Diaz was reported to receive a $500,000 guaranteed purse and Jorge Masvidal $300,000 before pay-per-view sales for their July 6, 2024 boxing match. MMA Fighting said the California State Athletic Commission supplied the figures. They are reported base purses—not a full accounting of either fighter’s earnings or take-home pay.

What the reported purse figures do—and do not—show
A guaranteed or base purse is not necessarily a fighter’s total compensation. MMA Fighting said sponsorship income, pay-per-view earnings and other revenue streams were not publicly disclosed. The report therefore cannot establish what Diaz or Masvidal ultimately earned, or what either took home after taxes, management expenses or other private arrangements.

There is a legal reason public disclosures may not amount to a complete earnings ledger. The Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act requires promoter disclosures of bout agreements and purse-related matters to commissions and boxers. Its confidentiality provision says: “Neither a boxing commission or an Attorney General may disclose to the public any matter furnished by a promoter under section 13 except to the extent required in a legal, administrative, or judicial proceeding.” That provision offers context for the limits of public information; it does not verify the source or completeness of these particular reported figures. The purses concern the 10-round light heavyweight boxing match held July 6, 2024, at Honda Center in Anaheim, California. It was a rematch of the fighters’ 2019 UFC 244 meeting, which UFC records as a third-round TKO win for Masvidal. The boxing purse figures should not be mistaken for compensation from that earlier MMA bout. UFC’s UFC 244 results.
