What does this mean for the AI trade?
The selloff points to investor scrutiny of the companies supplying memory, chips and infrastructure for AI, not proof that all AI-linked businesses are moving together or that the long-term investment theme has ended. Nasdaq Global Indexes’ March 2026 analysis described uneven performance across technology: some application-software companies were under pressure while some semiconductor and infrastructure-oriented companies were comparatively resilient. That earlier analysis is broad context, not evidence of October 13 performance.

Recent U.S. market activity was also mixed rather than a uniform technology decline. On October 12, the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.4%, even though roughly 64% of S&P 500 companies rose, AP reported. Micron, AMD, Broadcom and Nvidia were among the large technology stocks that declined. Separately, Nasdaq Dorsey Wright said the Nasdaq-100 fell 1.39% on October 9 amid concern about OpenAI revenue expectations and memory stocks. These are different indexes and dates from the October 13 futures reading.

- Check the timestamp. A futures quote can change before the cash market opens; Reuters’ 0.77% figure is specifically its 07:22 UTC observation on October 13.
