Verdict: Nair Prep & Smooth Face Sensitive Formula is a calcium-thioglycolate cream depilatory for removing facial hair, including peach fuzz, from the upper lip, chin and cheeks. The photos available from Nair and Ulta show the product and packaging—not independently verified hair-removal results. Its “sensitive” positioning and “dermatologist tested” description are manufacturer claims, not a guarantee that it will suit every face.
What this Nair product is
The review subject is Nair Prep & Smooth Face Sensitive Formula, labeled “Soothing with Coconut Milk & Collagen.” Nair lists it for the upper lip, chin and cheeks, including facial peach fuzz, in a 1.76 oz (50 g) package. The formula uses calcium thioglycolate, a depilatory ingredient, and an ergonomic applicator that the brand describes as touch-free. Nair presents it as a one-step hair-removal and exfoliation product for preparing skin for makeup or skin care. Ulta’s listing displayed a 3.7 rating from 1,132 reviews when checked October 7, 2026. That is a changeable snapshot of one retailer’s customer ratings, not a controlled product test or evidence that the reviewers represent all purchasers. The available information does not establish the reliability or representativeness of customer photos.
How the two Prep & Smooth formulas differ
Nair also sells a Hydrating formula in the same product line. The distinction in the brand’s product descriptions is the featured ingredients and skin-type positioning, not established differences in hair-removal performance.

The Sensitive product’s listed ingredients specifically name coconut oil and soluble collagen; “coconut milk” is the product-page positioning. Neither formula’s marketing language proves it will be better tolerated or more effective for a particular person. What Nair says about results
Nair says depilatory cream weakens hair below the skin’s surface and claims regrowth takes longer than after shaving. Its facial-hair guide calls Prep & Smooth a blade-free alternative to dermaplaning and describes hair removal and smoothing through the applicator. These are the brand’s claims; the available sources do not provide an independently verified duration of smoothness or establish that this cream outperforms shaving or dermaplaning. Do not apply a duration claim for Nair’s face wax strips to this cream. The same guide says the wax strips can provide results lasting as long as four weeks; that claim applies to the strips, which use a different hair-removal method, not Prep & Smooth cream.

Follow the directions on the Prep & Smooth package. Nair’s general cream-use guide recommends a small-area test 24 hours before use, even if you have used the product before, and says to rinse thoroughly and discard the product if irritation occurs. It advises using cream on clean, dry skin and applying a thick, even layer. Its general face-cream guidance says to check at five minutes and not exceed ten minutes, but those timings are general guidance rather than a substitute for the exact Prep & Smooth package directions. - Move hair away from the face and remove makeup before applying; use the product on clean, dry skin.
- Keep facial depilatories away from the eyes and eyelids, and take care near the hairline, eyebrows, eyes and lips. Nair says not to use hair-removal creams on the lips or inside the nose or ears.
- Remove cream gently with a damp washcloth, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, following the product directions.
- If the patch test causes irritation, rinse thoroughly and do not proceed with full application.

The available evidence supports identifying the product and explaining the brand’s claims; it does not support a firsthand review or a claim of independently confirmed results.
