Mythical Games announced its acquisition of DMarket on January 25, 2023, alongside the launch of Mythical Marketplace 2.0. The announcement described an integration of DMarket’s marketplace technology, but disclosed no purchase price or other financial terms. It also laid out planned product and organizational changes—not proof of DMarket’s current status.

What is DMarket?

DMarket was a marketplace technology startup whose platform enabled trading digital assets, according to the company’s January 25, 2023 announcement. Its marketplace connected the transaction to blockchain-based gaming assets, rather than conventional securities or other investments.

In a December 19, 2022 update, DMarket said its platform was moving from Exonum to Mythical Chain. The company described changes to wallet ID formats, the migration of transaction history away from the Exonum explorer, and a more user-friendly setup. It also said DMarket was then part of the Mythos Foundation ecosystem. DMarket’s December 2022 platform update

Did Mythical Games buy DMarket?

Yes. Mythical Games announced the acquisition on January 25, 2023. DMarket’s announcement presented the launch of Mythical Marketplace 2.0 as following the acquisition; GamesBeat also covered the transaction that day. Mergr’s deal summary lists January 25, 2023, as the date and classifies it as an add-on acquisition. DMarket’s acquisition announcement · Mergr deal summary · GamesBeat coverage

Neither the announcement nor the Mergr summary states a purchase price or financial terms. The sources establish that Mythical described the transaction as an acquisition, but do not establish its value.

What was Mythical Marketplace 2.0?

Mythical described Marketplace 2.0 as a new marketplace built on Mythical Chain, which it characterized as an EVM layer-one blockchain. The company said the marketplace integrated DMarket technology and used MYTH as the ecosystem token. These are descriptions from Mythical’s announcement, not independent technical evaluations.

At launch, Mythical said Marketplace 2.0 supported assets for NFL Rivals and Nitro Nation World Tour, with support for other Mythical games on its roadmap. That was an announced plan; the cited sources do not confirm how far the expansion proceeded.

How the announced user experience was meant to work

Mythical said DMarket.com would retain a familiar web purchasing experience in U.S. dollars while trades were recorded on Mythical Chain. That distinction describes the announced customer-facing payment experience and the underlying transaction record; it should not be read as confirmation that the same arrangement remains available today.

The announcement also described peer-to-peer transactions, smart contracts enforcing ownership and commerce logic, and AML and anti-fraud protections. Those are company claims. The sources cited here do not provide an independent audit or outcome evaluation of those protections.

What did the companies say would happen after the acquisition?

DMarket’s announcement said its Kyiv office would become part of Mythical East, headquartered in Lisbon, and that DMarket co-founders Vlad Panchenko and Tamara Slanova would join Mythical’s executive leadership team. These statements describe the arrangement announced in 2023, not verified current office arrangements or leadership roles.

Mythical CEO John Linden said the marketplace was designed to improve the player experience and set a standard for gaming. DMarket CEO Vlad Panchenko described joining Mythical as an opportunity to reduce barriers for game developers and support new economies. These were executives’ stated aims, not independently measured outcomes.

What performance figures did Mythical cite?

In its January 2023 announcement, Mythical said Mythical Chain had processed “over 2 million transactions” in its first six weeks live. It also called the chain the “world’s second-largest processor of digital assets on a distributed ledger after the Ethereum mainnet,” describing its ranking as of December. Both figures are company claims; the sources reviewed do not independently verify them or provide a ranking methodology.

What happened to DMarket after the acquisition?

The January 2023 announcement documents the planned integration of DMarket technology into Marketplace 2.0 and the associated organizational changes. The cited sources do not establish the current operating status of DMarket.com or Marketplace 2.0, which games they currently support, whether the announced user arrangements continued, or the founders’ present roles. A 2023 announcement alone cannot answer those current-status questions.

For additional context, Axios reported on the acquisition against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and noted that a proposed DMarket NFT plan for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 had been canceled after gamer backlash in December 2021. That context does not establish why Mythical acquired DMarket. Axios’s February 2023 report
