That is a substantial share, but it is not the same as Tesla reporting that it delivered that many trucks, and Tesla’s filing does not break out SpaceX purchases by vehicle model.
How many Cybertrucks were registered to Musk-linked companies?
Los Angeles Times, citing S&P Global Mobility figures reported by Bloomberg, said SpaceX accounted for 1,279 U.S. Cybertruck registrations in Q4 2025. Another 60 were attributed to xAI, Neuralink, and The Boring Company. Together, the companies represented about 18.9% of the 7,071 U.S. Cybertruck registrations reported for that quarter. Los Angeles Times’ account of the registration figures describes registrations, not Tesla-reported deliveries.

The share is meaningful evidence that Musk-linked businesses were a notable destination for Cybertrucks during that quarter. It does not, on its own, show how many trucks went to independent customers, how the vehicles were used, or why each company acquired them.
How do those registrations compare with Cybertruck sales estimates?
The same Los Angeles Times report attributed U.S. sales estimates to Cox Automotive’s Kelley Blue Book: 20,237 Cybertrucks in 2025, down 48.1% from 38,965 in 2024. It also reported an estimate of 3,519 in Q1 2026, down 45.1% from Q1 2025. These are third-party market estimates, not registration counts or Tesla’s own model-level delivery figures.

The Q4 registration total and annual sales estimate cover different measures and periods, so they should not be combined as though they were one dataset. Taken together, however, the figures put the related-company registrations in a market context: Cybertruck sales estimates were falling sharply, while Musk-linked companies accounted for a noticeable portion of registrations in the final quarter of 2025.
What do SpaceX’s $131 million of Cybertruck spending and Tesla’s filing show?
Reuters reported that SpaceX’s IPO filing disclosed $131 million in spending on Tesla Cybertrucks during 2025, at suggested retail prices. That is a full-year spending figure—not a Q4 registration count. It cannot be converted reliably into an exact number of trucks by dividing by the Cybertruck’s base price: vehicles may have different configurations and prices, and spending at suggested retail prices is not a model-by-model registration record. Tesla’s April 30, 2026 amendment to its 2025 annual report separately disclosed about $143.3 million in 2025 revenue from SpaceX, primarily from vehicle sales. Tesla said those vehicle sales were made at rates generally available to unaffiliated third parties under the same or similar circumstances. The filing does not identify Cybertruck by model, so its $143.3 million figure cannot be treated as Cybertruck revenue or matched directly to SpaceX’s $131 million spending disclosure. Tesla’s 2025 annual report amendment provides the company’s related-party disclosure.

Tesla’s 2025 Form 10-K reported that company-wide automotive sales revenue fell $6.66 billion, or 9%, during the year. The company also said cash deliveries declined about 8%, with lower average selling prices contributing to the revenue decline. Those are figures for Tesla’s automotive business overall, not Cybertruck-specific results. Tesla’s 2025 Form 10-K gives the broader company context.

Related-party sales raise reasonable questions for investors about how much demand comes from buyers outside Musk’s corporate network, how transactions are priced, and whether the companies buying the vehicles are doing so for ordinary business purposes. The available figures do not establish the rationale for each purchase, Tesla’s Cybertruck revenue from SpaceX, or whether Tesla breached an accounting or reporting rule. They also do not establish that Musk intended to mislead investors or that Tesla improperly recognized revenue.
Los Angeles Times reported that it asked Tesla for comment and received no reply. That is the newspaper’s account of its inquiry, not a statement from Tesla. The distinction matters: the registration reporting and company filings provide evidence of related-company purchases and disclosed revenue, but they do not answer every question about the transactions.
