Gox Bitcoin repayments began in July 2024, but they have not been one simultaneous payout to every creditor. The trustee reported that more than 19,500 rehabilitation creditors had received Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) by March 27, 2025. At the latest official deadline information available here, the deadline for Base, Early Lump-Sum and Intermediate Repayments was October 31, 2026, Japan Time. That deadline does not guarantee payment to every creditor: unfinished procedures and processing issues can leave a claim unresolved.
Has Mt. Gox paid its creditors yet?
Yes, repayments have been made, but payment has not been universal. On June 24, 2024, Rehabilitation Trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi announced that BTC and BCH repayments would begin in early July through designated cryptocurrency exchanges, after information checks and other preparations. The trustee cited safety measures, regulatory compliance in each country and arrangements with exchanges. Read the trustee’s June 24, 2024 notice.
Following repayments in July and August 2024, further BTC and BCH payments took place from January through March 2025. In a March 27, 2025 notice, the trustee said more than 19,500 rehabilitation creditors had received BTC and BCH. That is a cumulative count reported as of that date, not a current recipient total or evidence that all creditors had been paid. See the March 27, 2025 notice.
When will Mt. Gox creditors get their Bitcoin back?
There is no single payout date for every creditor. The trustee’s October 27, 2025 notice, issued with court permission, extended the deadline for Base Repayment, Early Lump-Sum Repayment and Intermediate Repayment from October 31, 2025 to October 31, 2026, Japan Standard Time. The trustee said the extension was intended to allow payments to creditors whose required procedures were unfinished or whose payments encountered processing issues. The English translation of the 2025 notice is labeled for reference purposes only. The listed deadline is not a guarantee that every creditor will receive funds by that date regardless of eligibility, completed procedures or unresolved issues.
Why are some creditors still waiting?
The trustee has identified incomplete creditor procedures and payment-processing problems as reasons some repayments remain outstanding. For cryptocurrency payments, the issues described include actions or corrections needed on registered accounts, account-validity checks, exchange acceptance of arrangements for receiving payment on a creditor’s behalf, completion of discussions between the trustee and exchanges, and confirmation that payment can be made safely. In its October 2025 notice, the trustee said many creditors had not received repayments because they had not completed the necessary procedures.

What form can a Mt. Gox repayment take?
Creditor outcomes are not all the same. Some repayments are in BTC and BCH through designated cryptocurrency exchanges. The trustee also reported cash proceeds from sales of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash for some creditors. Do not assume that every creditor chose or received the same repayment form; the relevant details depend on the creditor’s claim and repayment arrangements.
How do I check my Mt. Gox claim status?
- Use the trustee’s official channel. Online filers can check claim information through the Mt. Gox claims portal. Start from the trustee’s official homepage if you need to verify the destination.
- Contact the trustee if you cannot log in. The trustee’s help desk is the appropriate contact for access problems or claim-status questions that cannot be resolved in the portal.
- Do not expect a designated exchange to control your claim. Kraken says claim information is held on trustee servers and that Kraken cannot amend claims, approve or deny them, or determine when distributions occur. See Kraken’s Mt. Gox FAQ for its role and the trustee’s process.
Do Mt. Gox wallet transfers mean creditors are being paid?
No. A transfer from a Mt. Gox-associated wallet does not by itself establish that creditors received a distribution. CoinDesk reported on June 2, 2026 that 10,422.65 BTC moved to new wallets and said the coins had not yet reached a custodian or exchange. How to avoid Mt. Gox repayment scams
The trustee warns that websites and emails may impersonate Mt. Gox or the trustee. Do not provide personal information through an unauthorized site or a link in an unsolicited message. Navigate to the official trustee homepage or claims portal directly, and use the trustee’s help desk for account or process questions.
