Beast Industries, the company associated with YouTube creator MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson), announced on February 9, 2026, that it had acquired Step, a financial technology company offering app-based money tools and financial-literacy resources. Step is not a bank: its banking services are provided by Evolve Bank & Trust. The companies have not disclosed the purchase price or described specific post-acquisition operating changes in the cited accounts.
What was announced?
Step announced the acquisition on February 9, 2026. Beast Industries said the combination would bring Step’s platform and fintech team together with its audience reach and philanthropic initiatives, with the stated aim of expanding financial-wellness offerings. That is the companies’ strategy for the deal, not evidence that customers’ financial outcomes have already changed.
Step founder and CEO CJ MacDonald said the acquisition would amplify the platform and bring new products to Step customers. Beast Industries CEO Jeff Housenbold described the aim as reaching audiences with practical, technology-driven financial solutions. MrBeast told TechCrunch: “Nobody taught me about investing, building credit, or managing money when I was growing up.” He also said: “I want to give millions of young people the financial foundation I never had.” These statements explain the rationale the companies presented; they do not establish what products will be introduced or when.

Step describes its app as offering tools for building credit, investing, saving, and managing money. Its acquisition announcement said it had more than 7 million users as of February 9, 2026. Step’s company page, accessed October 7, 2026, instead says it has more than 7 million accounts; accounts are not necessarily unique active users.

Step’s company page also lists it as acquired by Beast Industries in 2026. The cited accounts do not specify whether Step’s management, staffing, product roadmap, or day-to-day operations changed after the acquisition.
Is Step a bank?
No. Step says it is a financial technology company, not a bank. Its disclosure says that banking services are provided by Evolve Bank & Trust, Member FDIC, and that the Step Visa Card is issued by Evolve under a Visa license. Beast Industries acquired Step, the fintech company; the announcement does not say that it acquired a bank.

Step’s own product disclosures also make clear that different features have different terms and risks:
- Credit building: Step says the feature depends on the account being in good standing and on reporting to credit bureaus. A person’s broader credit history and score can also be affected by activity outside the Step card, so the app does not guarantee a score increase.
- Savings: Step describes the account’s savings percentage as cash rewards, not interest. The percentage is variable and may change.
- Investing: Step says investment products can lose value and are not FDIC insured. The bank-partner disclosure should not be read as deposit insurance for investment products.

Step’s platform could give Beast Industries a route to offer financial tools to its audience, as the companies say they intend. Whether that reach translates into useful products or improved financial outcomes for users remains to be seen; the announcement itself does not establish those results.
