Motti Beck was named CEO of Tera Systems on June 21, 2005, according to EE Times. The announcement covered a specialist electronic-design-automation startup, not a personal-finance company. Beck later told the publication that he had left Tera by the end of 2005.

What Tera Systems did

EE Times described Tera Systems as an electronic-design-automation (EDA) startup developing “physical implementation regression” tools. The software was intended to let front-end design engineers analyze a functional description before implementation—an effort to identify design issues earlier in the process.

Beck told EE Times that Tera was working with a handful of customers doing production at the 90-nanometer process node. He named LSI Logic, IBM and Oki Semiconductor as early adopters. Those customer names and the characterization of their work are Beck’s statements as reported in the 2005 article, not independently established current relationships.

What the 2005 report said about the company

EE Times reported that Tera had approximately 45 employees, most of them in research and development and based in San Jose. It also said the company had secured $14 million in venture financing from VantagePoint Venture Partners the previous April. Both figures describe the company as reported in 2005; they are not current company metrics.

Beck argued that the technology answered an industry need as semiconductor companies moved to smaller process nodes. EE Times quoted him: “We believe that this [technology] is something that the semiconductor industry needs,” he said. “As more companies move to 90 nanometer and below, demand will increase.” The article also quoted Beck calling the technology “winning” and “unique”; those were his descriptions, not an independent evaluation.

Beck’s career background at the time

The appointment report described Beck as the founder, president and CEO of Bindkey Technologies, which had been acquired by DuPont Photomasks. It also identified him as a former president and COO of Butterfly Communications, later acquired by Texas Instruments, and said he had spent 15 years in engineering, marketing and senior-management roles at National Semiconductor.

Later biographies provide additional career context. The NVIDIA GTC session catalog described Beck as a senior director of enterprise market development for networking and summarized earlier roles at DuPont Photomask, BindKey, Butterfly Communications and National Semiconductor. Lenovo Press published a similar author biography and listed a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Technion–Israel Institute of Technology. These biographies are dated career summaries; they do not establish Beck’s present employment status.

What happened after the appointment

In a January 2006 follow-up, EE Times reported that Beck told the publication he had not been with Tera since the end of 2005. That places his departure within months of the CEO announcement.

The same follow-up discussed the possibility that Tera might close, but did not confirm that the company had shut down. The available reporting therefore supports Beck’s reported departure, not a definitive claim about Tera’s closure.
