This is a retrospective comparison of what each project says its token does and how its supply, security or governance works—not an investment ranking or price forecast. Current facts are dated because some project details changed after 2025.
What each token is for
The clearest way to compare these four projects is to start with the token’s stated role. The roles below come from the projects’ own documentation; they do not demonstrate that the tokens performed well as investments.
| Project and token | Stated role | Security or governance connection |
|---|---|---|
| BlockDAG (BDAG) | Native cryptocurrency for transactions, smart-contract execution and network security, according to BlockDAG’s current tokenomics documentation, accessed in 2026. | BlockDAG describes BDAG as supporting network security; the reviewed material does not establish independent security outcomes. |
| TON (Toncoin in the 2025 framing) | Pays transaction and smart-contract execution fees, according to TON documentation. | TON documentation also describes staking and validators. |
| Aave (AAVE) | Connected to Aave protocol governance, according to Aave’s governance documentation. | AAVE, stkAAVE and aAAVE balances can carry proposal and voting power through the documented process. |
| Celestia (TIA) | Pays for blobspace and data availability; rollup developers may also use it as gas and currency when bootstrapping a chain, according to Celestia documentation. | Celestia documentation describes staking and governance, with inflation parameters subject to protocol upgrades. |
What the project documentation says about each
BlockDAG: BDAG supply and roadmap have conflicting published versions
BlockDAG’s current tokenomics page, accessed in 2026, states a total supply of 150 billion BDAG. Its listed allocations are 50 billion for existing holders, 50 billion for mining rewards, 25 billion for presale and 25 billion for the ecosystem. Those figures add up to the stated total.
An older BlockDAG wiki page gives a materially different distribution: 50 billion presale coins, 75 billion for miners, 19 billion for community and ecosystem, 4.5 billion for liquidity and 1.5 billion for the team. These are different versions, not figures that can be combined into one allocation. Anyone assessing BDAG should check which tokenomics schedule currently governs the network and whether allocations have changed.

BlockDAG’s current developer hub reports that mainnet block production was activated in February 2026 and that Phases 1 and 2 are complete. A builder page still gives a Q3/4 2025 mainnet target; that older target should be treated as historical, not as the current status. These are BlockDAG’s own roadmap statements, not independent verification of network operation or performance.
TON: fee utility and a post-2025 name change
For the 2025 period named in this article, the token is referred to as Toncoin. TON documentation describes it as the native currency used to pay transaction and smart-contract execution fees, and also documents staking and validators. TON’s official material reports that a 2026 community vote changed the name from “Toncoin” to “Gram.” That later naming should not be projected backward onto the article’s 2025 framing; readers should confirm the current name and ticker on the network and venue they use.

TON’s August 2025 ecosystem report can provide project-published context about its ecosystem and roadmap at that time. It is not independent confirmation of adoption or evidence that Toncoin was a strong investment.
Aave: governance is the documented connection
Aave’s governance documentation describes the Aave DAO as a decentralized collective of AAVE token holders and contributors. It says that AAVE, stkAAVE and aAAVE balances can provide proposal and voting power under the governance process. That supports a governance-based description of AAVE’s role; it does not establish that governance participation causes the token’s market price to rise.

Celestia: TIA’s issuance schedule changed through upgrades
Celestia’s documentation states that TIA had a genesis supply of 1 billion. Its overview gives an initial first-year inflation rate of 8%, then a schedule declining by 10% annually to a 1.5% floor. Those overview figures describe the initial schedule, not a single rate that applies unchanged across later versions.
Celestia’s upgrade history says the v4 Lotus upgrade in July 2025 changed the schedule to about 5%, and the later v6 account in November 2025 gives about 2.5%. The rate therefore needs a version and date attached to it. For a current supply estimate, a reader should check the active protocol parameters rather than extrapolate from the genesis figure or initial schedule.

Which one is most promising?
That depends on what “promising” means. A network-fee token, a governance token and a data-availability token do not have the same investment thesis. The official documentation reviewed here supports comparisons of stated utility and selected token mechanics, but it does not provide consistent, independent evidence to rank these projects by adoption, technical or economic risk, or 2025 investment performance.
- If you prioritize stated network function: TON describes fee payment and validation; Celestia describes paid data availability and optional rollup use; BlockDAG describes transactions, smart-contract execution and network security.
- If you prioritize governance: Aave documents proposal and voting power associated with eligible AAVE, stkAAVE and aAAVE balances; Celestia also documents governance and staking.
- If you prioritize supply clarity: the documented schedules still require care. BlockDAG has conflicting published allocation versions, while Celestia’s inflation rate changed with upgrades. The cited material does not give enough consistent, independently verified information to identify a supply-based winner.
These distinctions describe project design, not comparative quality. A stated use case does not establish demand, token value capture, security, execution quality or investment returns.

What to check before making an investment decision
- Confirm the asset name and ticker. TON’s 2026 material reports a community-approved change from Toncoin to Gram; confirm what the relevant network and venue currently call the asset.
- Check the active network status. For BlockDAG, distinguish the developer hub’s 2026 status report from the older Q3/4 2025 target, and seek independent evidence of operation rather than relying only on project statements.
- Verify supply and issuance against the current version. For BlockDAG, identify which allocation schedule applies. For Celestia, use the inflation parameters after the relevant protocol upgrades rather than the initial schedule alone.
- Understand what token participation entails. Fee payment, staking, validator participation and governance carry different mechanics and risks. Read the current network or protocol rules before assuming a token’s stated role applies to your intended use.
- Seek independent evidence for investment claims. Compare dated market performance, usage, liquidity, concentration, security incidents and execution risks using consistent measures. The project documents cited here do not settle those comparisons.
