On September 24, 2025, the latest available Freddie Mac weekly averages were 6.26% for a 30-year fixed mortgage and 5.41% for a 15-year fixed mortgage. Those figures describe the week of September 18—not a rate published on September 24—and are survey averages rather than personalized loan offers.

Freddie Mac mortgage rates available on September 24

September 24, 2025, fell between Freddie Mac’s weekly releases on September 18 and September 25. The September 18 report was therefore the latest weekly observation available that Wednesday.

Loan term Latest rate available September 24 Observation week
30-year fixed 6.26% Week of September 18, 2025
15-year fixed 5.41% Week of September 18, 2025

These are Freddie Mac’s Primary Mortgage Market Survey (PMMS) averages for conventional, conforming, fully amortizing home-purchase loans. The survey profile assumes borrowers with 20% down and excellent credit. An individual’s offer can differ based on their credit, down payment, loan details, lender, and other factors; the survey rate is not a guaranteed quote. See Freddie Mac’s PMMS and its 2025 release archive.

What changed in the next weekly release

Freddie Mac’s next report, published September 25, recorded a 6.30% average for 30-year fixed loans and 5.49% for 15-year fixed loans. Compared with the September 18 observations, those were increases of 0.04 and 0.08 percentage points, respectively. The September 25 numbers are the following week’s report, not rates that were available on September 24. Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater said, “Following several weeks of decline, mortgage rates inched up this week.” (Freddie Mac, September 25, 2025.)

How to interpret the September 24 figures

  • They are weekly survey averages. They are not a single daily market reading or the rate every borrower could obtain.
  • Keep the date and publisher attached. Freddie Mac, Mortgage News Daily, the Mortgage Bankers Association, and the Federal Housing Finance Agency publish distinct rate series at different frequencies. A daily index should not be treated as interchangeable with a weekly survey. Mortgage News Daily describes its separate series here; the materials available for this date do not establish an exact Mortgage News Daily quote for September 24.
  • Market context is not a direct pricing formula. The Associated Press reported that the September 25 uptick ended four weeks of declines and noted that mortgage rates generally track the trajectory of the 10-year Treasury yield. That relationship does not mean a Treasury move translates one-for-one into a mortgage-rate change. (Associated Press.)

For a historical check of Freddie Mac’s 30-year series, FRED presents the Freddie Mac-sourced weekly observations ending Thursday: 30-Year Fixed Rate Mortgage Average in the United States.
