The launch price was $30 per month equivalent for customers with a Mint phone plan, but the first three months cost $90 upfront—not $30 billed monthly. Non-Mint customers were quoted $40 per month equivalent. MINTernet uses T-Mobile’s 5G network, and availability and performance depend on the exact home address.
What Mint’s home-internet service is
MINTernet is fixed wireless broadband: a cellular gateway connects to T-Mobile’s 5G network and provides Wi-Fi in the home. Mint brands and sells the service, but it is not a new wired network. Mint phone service, MINTernet, and T-Mobile 5G Home Internet are separate products with potentially different pricing, eligibility, equipment, support, and terms.
Mint’s October 15, 2025 launch announcement described the service as available with a loaned gateway, self-installation, no monthly equipment charge, and a 14-day money-back guarantee. The gateway must be returned when service ends; the later April 7, 2026 bundle announcement says a non-return fee may apply.
What the $30 price meant
The launch price was an equivalent monthly rate tied to prepaid service periods. It was not a standard $30 month-to-month bill. These are launch terms reported in October 2025, not confirmation of current checkout pricing.

| Customer situation | Launch rate equivalent | Upfront payment |
|---|---|---|
| Mint wireless customer, first three months | $30 per month | $90 |
| Non-Mint customer, first three months | $40 per month | $120 |
| Mint customer, 12-month renewal | $30 per month | $360 |
| Mint customer, three-month renewal | $40 per month | $120 |
| Non-Mint customer, three-month renewal | $50 per month | $150 |
The launch announcement says taxes and fees may be additional. If you would switch mobile service to Mint to qualify for the lower rate, include the cost of every mobile line in your comparison. The useful number is the combined mobile-plus-home bill, not MINTernet’s rate in isolation.
What changed after launch
On April 7, 2026, T-Mobile announced a separate $45-per-month annual bundle combining MINTernet with unlimited premium wireless. The announcement does not establish that the original standalone pricing was discontinued. Treat both the $30 launch figure and the later bundle as dated offers: confirm the current price, required mobile plan, payment schedule, and eligibility at Mint’s official MINTernet page and checkout before ordering.

Speeds, data, and performance
October 2025 launch coverage cited estimated download speeds of about 133–415 Mbps and upload speeds of about 12–55 Mbps. Those figures are estimates reported by Droid Life, not guaranteed speeds for every eligible address. Actual results can vary with indoor signal, gateway placement, building materials, tower capacity, local congestion, time of day, and the number of nearby fixed-wireless users.
Mint marketed the service as unlimited. However, launch coverage reported that speeds may vary after roughly 1 TB of monthly use. That is not evidence of a hard 1 TB cutoff; it points to possible network-management or reduced-speed treatment after heavy usage. Check the current service terms if your household regularly streams in 4K, downloads large games, runs cloud backups or a home server, or uploads large media files.

- 5G High-Speed Internet Gateway Designed for fast and stable connectivity using T-Mobile 5G network
- Model G5AR-1 Official T-Mobile gateway device
- Dual-Band WiFi Support Provides reliable wireless connections for multiple devices simultaneously
- Wi-Fi 7
- Wide Device Compatibility Works with PCs, smart TVs, smartphones, gaming consoles, and smart home devices
Fixed wireless can be convenient for streaming, browsing, video calls, and schoolwork, but its speed and latency can fluctuate more than a wired connection. The reported upload range may also be limiting for remote production, frequent large uploads, or a household with several simultaneous video calls.
Check eligibility and test the gateway before switching
A phone showing 5G nearby does not prove that MINTernet will work well inside your home. Fixed-wireless eligibility depends on the exact address and available network capacity as well as signal. Run Mint’s address check before ordering, and do not cancel existing internet based only on a coverage map or outdoor phone signal.

- Enter the exact service address in Mint’s availability checker and review the terms and price shown at checkout.
- Order the service and wait for the gateway to arrive. Keep your existing broadband active if possible.
- Place the gateway in several locations, starting near a window or exterior wall rather than in a cabinet, basement, or interior room.
- Activate it, connect your devices, and test more than once—including during busy evening hours, when congestion may be more visible.
- Check the activities your household depends on, such as video calls, streaming, gaming, and large downloads. If you return the service, follow the stated process and keep proof that the loaned gateway was sent back.
Mint said self-installation could take 15 minutes or less in most cases. That is an estimate, not a guarantee; the 14-day money-back guarantee described at launch is a reason to understand the current return and refund terms before relying on it.
Who may find MINTernet worthwhile
- Existing Mint customers whose exact address qualifies and has a strong indoor T-Mobile 5G signal.
- Renters, students, or households that value self-installation and would rather avoid a wired installation appointment.
- Smaller or moderate-use households whose everyday needs are browsing, streaming, schoolwork, and video calls.
- Budget-conscious buyers who can manage the prepaid payment and have confirmed that the combined mobile and home cost beats their alternatives.
Who should compare other options first
- Anyone with fiber available at a similar total cost: fiber is generally the stronger choice for upload performance, latency consistency, and stability.
- Households needing high, dependable upload speeds or a low and consistent latency connection.
- Users who host public-facing servers, require a static IP, or need advanced router features such as port forwarding. The available material does not establish MINTernet gateway support for these features, so verify before buying.
- Homes with weak indoor T-Mobile signal, recurring peak-hour congestion, or very high monthly usage.
- Buyers who need a conventional monthly bill rather than paying several months in advance.
How it compares with other broadband choices
| Option | Where it may have an advantage | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| MINTernet | Potentially low cost for qualifying Mint customers; self-installation; no wired connection required. | Address eligibility, prepaid terms, indoor signal, peak-hour performance, and gateway capabilities. |
| Fiber | Usually stronger upload performance, latency consistency, and stability. | Local availability, installation requirements, and total monthly cost. |
| Cable | May provide more predictable wired performance and broader local availability. | Promotional-rate expiration, equipment charges, data policies, and upload needs. |
| T-Mobile 5G Home Internet | Uses the same carrier ecosystem and may suit an address where its separate product qualifies. | Check eligibility and terms separately; do not assume identical pricing, gateway, support, or network-management policies. Visit T-Mobile’s home internet page. |
| Verizon 5G Home Internet | May be a better wireless option where Verizon’s 5G signal and capacity are stronger at home. | Check the address and actual indoor performance rather than choosing on a promotion alone. Visit Verizon’s 5G Home page. |
There is no universal winner among fixed wireless, cable, and fiber. Check the providers serving your address and compare actual total costs, including mobile service you would add or change, taxes, fees, equipment, and any introductory period. For wireless service, the decisive test is how it performs at home, especially at peak times.

Verdict
MINTernet can be a good-value option for a qualifying Mint customer with strong indoor T-Mobile 5G and moderate internet needs. The $30 headline was a prepaid launch rate, not an ordinary monthly bill, and it should not be assumed to be the current offer. Confirm today’s checkout terms, test the connection while your existing service is still available, and compare the combined cost with wired options before switching.
