Ethereum Classic (ETC) mining is proof-of-work mining: compatible GPUs or ASICs use the ETCHash algorithm to compete to add blocks to the network. To get started, you need compatible hardware, ETCHash mining software, an ETC wallet address, and—if you do not have enough hashrate to find blocks reliably—a mining pool. Whether mining is profitable depends on your equipment’s efficiency, electricity price, scale, uptime, pool fees, and changing network and market conditions; there is no universal profit estimate.
What ETC mining does
Miners use computing power to search for a valid proof of work. The network accepts a valid block, and the miner or pool earns mining revenue under the network’s reward rules. ETC uses ETCHash, an Ethash-family algorithm that relies on a DAG, or directed acyclic graph, dataset.
ETCHash was introduced through ECIP-1099, also known as the Thanos upgrade. The proposal changed the epoch length used in DAG calculations from 30,000 to 60,000 blocks, slowing the dataset’s growth relative to the prior schedule. ECIP-1099 specified activation on ETC mainnet at block 11,700,000; these are protocol parameters, not measures of current profitability. Read ECIP-1099.
What equipment and software you need
Choose an ETCHash-compatible GPU or ASIC
The two main hardware categories are GPUs and ASICs. GPUs can be repurposed for other workloads, while ASICs are purpose-built for mining algorithms. Neither category is automatically the better choice: compare actual ETCHash support and operating economics for the specific equipment you are considering.

- All aluminum alloy profiles, strong and durable, full protection of graphics cards and electronic devices, can be firmly superimposed
- Included motherboard power switch saves you the hassle of manually jumping the motherboard with wires and tools that expose your machine to danger, supports up to 2 PSU (power supplies)
- Adjustable holder frames make it fits any size of video cards. Supercooling design for heat dissipation. Significantly increase the distance between the graphics cards
- Stackable and durable. Side and clear bottom panels provide full protection of GPUs and other electronic components
- Item DOES NOT include Fans. (Supports 5 x 120mm fans). However, fan mounts and brackets are provided in case you need to install fans.
- Algorithm support: confirm that the model supports ETCHash, not merely another Ethash-family algorithm.
- Memory and DAG compatibility: check the current DAG requirements and the selected miner’s hardware compatibility. A 2022 ETC hardware guide’s 4 GB recommendation and projection of support until around mid-2025 are outdated as a current purchasing rule. See the dated hardware guide.
- Performance and power: compare expected ETCHash hashrate with power consumption, including the electricity and cooling needed to operate the equipment.
- Ownership costs and practicalities: include acquisition price, availability, warranty, noise, heat, and any additional infrastructure.
The official ETC miner FAQ describes GPUs and ASICs as the main hardware options and directs miners to software resources. It does not establish a currently recommended hardware model. Check ETC’s mining resources.
Select maintained mining software
Mining software depends on your operating system and hardware. Choose software that explicitly supports ETCHash and obtain it from the project’s official release channel. Confirm compatibility and setup instructions in the miner’s current documentation; there is no single universal command or interface that applies to every miner and pool.

Decide whether to mine solo or join a pool
Solo mining means attempting to find blocks on your own. With a small share of the network’s total hashrate, block discoveries are likely to be irregular, so income can be difficult to predict. A mining pool combines participants’ work and generally distributes smaller, more regular payments in proportion to contributed hashrate, subject to its payout rules.
Before choosing a pool, compare its current fee, payout method and threshold, server location, reliability, and share of ETC network hashrate. A very large pool may be convenient, but concentrating too much hashrate in one pool creates a decentralization trade-off. Pool terms and network conditions can change, so verify them directly before configuring your miner. Consult ETC’s mining resource page for current mining-resource and pool-stat context.

Set up an ETC mining operation
- Prepare a wallet: create or select a secure ETC wallet and copy its receiving address carefully. A pool needs an address to identify where it should direct payouts.
- Check equipment compatibility: verify that your GPU or ASIC supports ETCHash and meets the current DAG and miner requirements.
- Install a suitable miner: download a maintained ETCHash-compatible program from its official release channel, then follow its current documentation for your hardware and operating system.
- Choose a pool if appropriate: review the pool’s published endpoint, fees, payout terms, and server options. Use the pool’s current instructions rather than copying an endpoint or command from an old guide.
- Configure and monitor: enter the pool endpoint and the required wallet and worker details in the miner. Check accepted and rejected shares, hashrate, temperatures, power use, and payout records as the miner runs.
Exact setup screens and configuration fields vary by miner, operating system, and pool. Use the documentation for the specific services and equipment you choose; the steps above describe the common sequence, not a tested configuration.
Understand mining rewards
ETC miner revenue primarily includes the fixed base reward under ECIP-1017, which is reduced by 20% every 5 million blocks. Transaction fees, uncle rewards, and MEV can provide additional revenue. The actual amount received depends on current chain conditions and, for pool miners, the pool’s payout method and terms. Review ETC’s miner FAQ and check live chain information before relying on a current reward figure.

Estimate whether mining could make financial sense
A profitability calculator can provide an estimate, not a guarantee. The result is only as useful as its inputs, and those inputs can change. Include:
- Expected ETCHash hashrate and wall power draw for your equipment.
- Your local electricity price and expected operating hours or uptime.
- Equipment purchase cost and any cooling or infrastructure costs.
- Pool fees and payout conditions, if you mine through a pool.
- Current ETC price, network hashrate, difficulty, and reward assumptions used by the calculator.
Electricity cost and hardware efficiency are especially important, and larger scale can change the economics. A positive calculator result does not guarantee that you will recover your purchase cost or remain profitable: ETC’s market price, network conditions, and operating costs can change. Run the numbers using your own electricity rate and equipment specifications, then compare potential mining revenue with the full cost of operating and owning the hardware. ETC’s miner FAQ likewise identifies electricity costs, efficiency, and scale as key factors.

Common beginner mistakes to avoid
- Buying hardware based on an old memory threshold: a past DAG estimate does not establish present compatibility. Check current requirements before purchasing.
- Assuming a hashrate alone predicts profit: power draw, electricity price, fees, uptime, and changing network and market assumptions also matter.
- Using stale pool or software instructions: confirm the current miner release, pool endpoint, fees, and payout terms from the relevant project or pool.
- Confusing estimates with guaranteed income: solo discoveries are irregular for small miners, and pool payments depend on contributions and payout rules.
