South Metropolitan TAFE and Woolworths opened a simulated supermarket at the TAFE’s Mandurah campus in late July 2025, giving students with disabilities a place to practise retail and customer service skills. The Mini Woolies is a vocational training environment, not a public Woolworths store.
What the Mandurah Mini Woolies is for
The facility recreates a supermarket setting so students can practise practical retail and customer service skills as part of vocational education. The reports describe the training aims, including building confidence and supporting future pathways; they do not report measured employment, independence or training outcomes.
At the launch, Mandurah MLA Rhys Williams, representing Skills and TAFE Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson, called the space “a stepping stone to future education, employment and independence.”
How the campus initiative began
Coast FM reported that Mandurah was the second South Metropolitan TAFE campus to host a Mini Woolies, following the Bentley campus launch in late 2024. The Mandurah facility’s official launch took place in late July 2025. Coast FM published its report on 1 August 2025, followed by PerthNow on 6 August 2025.

What is known—and what remains unreported
The available reports identify South Metropolitan TAFE and Woolworths as partners and describe the facility’s purpose. They do not specify its equipment or accessibility features, course structure, enrolment arrangements, current operating status or student outcomes. Williams also described Mandurah as “the most accessible and inclusive city in Western Australia”; that is his statement at the launch, not a reported comparative assessment.
Sanderson said the initiative was “another way our TAFE sector is providing training opportunities for Western Australians” and congratulated the partners on “this innovative approach to vocational training.”
