How did Mike Love make his money?
Love is a co-founder of the Beach Boys and a lyricist whose work is part of the band’s musical legacy. The Associated Press reports that he wrote lyrics for dozens of Beach Boys songs, including “I Get Around,” “California Girls,” “Help Me Rhonda,” and “Good Vibrations.” The band’s official site quotes him describing his role in songwriting with Brian Wilson: “Nobody structures harmonies, chord progressions, and melodies better than Brian. My part was writing the lyrics and the hooks.” The Beach Boys’ account of Love and Wilson’s songwriting partnership provides career context, but neither songwriting credits nor the quote establishes Love’s royalty rate or current income.
Why Beach Boys catalog deals do not confirm his personal wealth
The 1969 catalog sale
The Associated Press reports that Murry Wilson sold the Beach Boys’ song catalog for $700,000 in 1969, without consulting the band members and leaving Love’s name off as a contributor. Love told the AP, “That’s rough, when your uncle sells your songs without giving you any credit.” The $700,000 was the reported price for that historical catalog transaction; it is not evidence that Love received that amount or any particular share of it. The Associated Press report discusses the sale and credit dispute.

The later transaction with Iconic Artists Group
A 2021 account on Love’s site says the Beach Boys sold Iconic Artists Group a controlling interest in intellectual property that included master recordings, part of the publishing, the band brand, and memorabilia. It says band members retained interests, but the transaction price was not disclosed. That account does not state Love’s individual proceeds. Love’s account of the Iconic Artists Group transaction describes the rights involved.
How to interpret the numbers
| Figure | What it represents | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| $100 million | Celebrity Net Worth’s estimate of Love’s net worth, on a page updated June 24, 2026. | A verified personal balance sheet, audited accounts, or a disclosed calculation. |
| $700,000 | The Associated Press’s reported price for Murry Wilson’s 1969 sale of the Beach Boys’ song catalog. | Money shown to have gone to Love or a measure of his present wealth. |
| Price not disclosed | The 2021 account of the controlling-interest sale to Iconic Artists Group. | Love’s individual proceeds or the value of his personal assets. |
These figures describe different things: one is a third-party personal-wealth estimate, one is a historical catalog sale price, and one is an undisclosed later rights transaction. They are not competing estimates of Love’s net worth. The sources do not reveal his complete assets, liabilities, current royalty income, or individual proceeds from the later deal.
