Mike Ashley can no longer seal a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday, because the sale process has already concluded. The club’s joint administrators announced on 5 May 2026 that the sale had completed, with the buyer being Arise Capital Partners LLC. Any question about when Ashley could complete a deal is out of date.
What the administrators announced
The joint administrators’ announcement, written by Kris Wigfield, Joint Administrator at BTG, says: “The transaction has been completed following constructive engagement with key stakeholders, including the English Football League (EFL), and in accordance with all relevant regulatory requirements.” It identifies the purchaser as Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch, with Michael Storch and Tom Costin.
The announcement confirms completion of the sale. It does not describe any further step in the process, so there is no pending completion date to wait for.
Key dates in the process
| Date | Event | What it establishes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24 October 2025 | Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Limited enters administration | Start of the administration, as recorded on the company’s register entry | Companies House |
| 5 May 2026 | Joint administrators announce completion of the sale to Arise Capital Partners LLC | The sale has completed; the consortium is led by David Storch | Joint administrators’ announcement (BTG) |
| 5 May 2026 | EFL Board does not impose a 15-point deduction | The club is to begin the upcoming season on zero points, as stated in May 2026 | Joint administrators’ announcement (BTG) |
| 2 June 2026 | Administrator’s progress report filed | An administrative filing; its contents are not summarised in the sources | Companies House filing history |
| 16 July 2026 | Result of creditors’ meeting | An administrative filing dated 16 July 2026; the outcome details are not stated in the sources | Companies House filing history |
Why the points position matters
When a club leaves administration, the EFL can impose a points deduction under its Insolvency Policy. The administrators say the EFL Board used its discretion not to impose the 15-point deduction after the club exited administration. The club is therefore to start the upcoming season on zero points.

What is not established about Ashley’s bid
Ashley’s interest in the club is not addressed in the administrators’ announcement or the Companies House entries reviewed for this article. As a result, the following points cannot be confirmed:

What completion does and does not settle
A completed sale means the administration process has produced a buyer. It does not mean ownership can never change. Any future change in control would be a new transaction, and nothing in the sources points to one.
