Mifcom’s BIG BOSS was a real, high-end workstation—not a seven-GPU gaming PC. Announced in August 2023, the system paired an AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX with seven water-cooled GeForce RTX 4090s and carried an original listed price of €28,999, or roughly $31,600 at the time. Its intended uses included AI, deep learning, rendering, data mining, and CAD. That launch price and date are historical; current availability, price, and support terms are not established.
What the BIG BOSS was
Mifcom, a German system builder, introduced the BIG BOSS Ryzen TR PRO 5995WX – 7x RTX 4090 in August 2023. The original price was €28,999. Contemporary coverage converted that to approximately $31,600–$31,627, depending on the exchange rate used. The dollar figure is a historical conversion, not a current quote. ComputerBase’s launch coverage and Mifcom’s announcement described a system aimed at professional compute and creation work, rather than ordinary desktop use.
Launch-period coverage reported a two- to three-week delivery estimate, a three-year warranty, and lifetime support. Those were terms reported in 2023 and should not be taken as current offers. Whether Mifcom still sells or services this exact configuration is not established here.

AMD’s specification for the 5995WX lists a 2.7GHz base clock, up to 4.5GHz boost, 256MB of L3 cache, eight memory channels, 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes, and a 280W default TDP. Those platform resources help explain the choice of a workstation processor for a system with many accelerators. AMD’s specifications describe the processor, not measured performance for this complete computer.

Why use seven RTX 4090s?
The point is to run multiple GPU devices on workloads that can divide computation effectively. AI training and inference, rendering queues, data processing, and some technical applications can distribute work across GPUs. In the right software, seven cards can increase throughput or let a user run several jobs at once. The actual benefit depends on how well the application splits work and handles communication between cards; the number of GPUs alone does not predict a speedup.
The seven cards contain 168GB of physical VRAM in total—seven separate 24GB memories. That is not automatically a single, shared 168GB pool. Depending on the software and workload, data may need to be divided among GPUs, copied, or replicated. A model or scene that exceeds one card’s 24GB capacity requires a supported partitioning or memory-management approach, and transfers between devices can reduce scaling efficiency.

Nvidia’s RTX 4090 specifications list 24GB of GDDR6X and no NVLink support. The system should therefore not be described as one NVLink-connected super-GPU. CUDA-capable software can use multiple devices, but support and scaling vary by application. Nvidia’s RTX 4090 specifications also identify the card as a GeForce product, rather than a professional RTX workstation GPU.
Power and cooling are part of the purchase decision
Contemporary reporting said Mifcom limited each RTX 4090 to about 300W in this configuration. That is below Nvidia’s listed 450W total graphics power for the reference RTX 4090. At the reported 300W limit, seven GPUs amount to approximately 2,100W for the GPUs alone. At 450W each, the arithmetic would be approximately 3,150W for the GPUs alone; that is a reference-spec comparison, not the advertised operating limit or a measured system draw. TechSpot reported the configured GPU limit, while Nvidia lists the reference card’s power specification.

The GPUs are only part of the load: the processor, motherboard, memory, storage, pumps, fans, and power-conversion losses also consume power. Two 2,000W power supplies provide substantial rated capacity, but that rating does not establish actual wall draw or prove that any particular household circuit can support the machine. Electrical service, voltage, circuit rating, connectors, and local code all matter. A facilities professional or electrician should assess an installation rather than relying on the PSU labels.
Seven GPUs and a 280W-TDP-class processor can also produce a substantial sustained heat load. The reported four-radiator custom loop and multiple fans are part of the design, not decorative extras. Radiator exhaust can heat a room during long workloads, and pump, fan, tubing, and coolant condition become reliability and maintenance concerns. Water cooling can help manage heat, but it does not remove the risks of component failure, leaks, power problems, or software limits. No independently verified operating temperatures or full-system benchmarks are established in the cited coverage.

Why seven GPUs do not make it a seven-times-faster gaming PC
Most games do not divide rendering across seven GPUs in a way that would deliver a simple multiple of one card’s frame rate. Multi-GPU support is limited, and the RTX 4090 does not support NVLink. The BIG BOSS’s value proposition was parallel professional work, not rendering one game faster. For conventional gaming, the additional cards, power, cooling, and cost would not translate into a dependable gaming benefit.

The BIG BOSS combined a workstation-class CPU platform, a large custom case, elaborate cooling, and GeForce graphics cards. That distinction matters. GeForce RTX 4090s offer substantial GPU resources, but they are consumer graphics products; buyers should not assume they provide the enterprise features, ECC graphics memory, application certifications, or support expectations associated with professional RTX PRO cards. Some professional software may also charge per GPU, adding recurring or per-seat licensing costs beyond the system’s purchase price.

For a certified professional workflow, a workstation built around a professional GPU may be a better fit even if its raw aggregate compute differs. For a workload that benefits from many CUDA devices and does not require those professional qualifications, GeForce cards may be an attractive compute choice. The correct comparison depends on software certification, memory needs, licensing, support, and utilization—not just GPU count.
Who could justify a system like this?
A seven-GPU workstation is most plausible where the hardware is heavily and consistently utilized, the software scales across devices, and time saved has measurable economic value. A rendering studio processing parallel jobs, an AI team with well-partitioned workloads, or a technical group running GPU-accelerated compute may be able to evaluate it as production equipment rather than an expensive personal PC.
- Confirm that the exact application supports multi-GPU execution and that the workload can be divided efficiently.
- Check whether the workload fits in each card’s 24GB memory or uses supported model or data parallelism.
- Include software licensing, service, electricity, cooling, and downtime in the cost calculation.
- Verify that the room and electrical installation can accommodate sustained operation.
- Compare against fewer, newer, or professional GPUs based on completed work per dollar, not peak device count.
Who should avoid it—and what to consider in 2026
It is a poor match for gaming, single-GPU applications, casual creative work, or users who expect seven times the performance of one RTX 4090. It is also a difficult fit for a home or office without appropriate electrical and thermal capacity, or for buyers who need a current-generation platform and clearly verified support coverage.
The BIG BOSS is a historical August 2023 launch, not a newly introduced 2026 system. The cited launch price, delivery estimate, warranty, and support terms do not establish today’s price or availability. Anyone considering the exact machine should confirm those details directly with Mifcom and compare it with current workstation options. For example, Nvidia’s RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell materials describe a professional workstation GPU with 32GB GDDR7 ECC memory and 200W board power, but that product is not an equivalent replacement for seven RTX 4090s in aggregate compute or memory. Nvidia’s RTX PRO 4500 page and its workstation datasheet provide product details; current pricing is not stated there.
