Midnite announced the first closing of a $16 million Series A on February 1, 2022. The Raine Group led the round, with existing investors Makers Fund and Venrex increasing their investment. Midnite said it would use the proceeds to grow a platform combining sports and esports betting with a skill-based gaming product, while a casual casino and minigames offering was then planned for 2022.
Who led Midnite’s $16 million funding round?
The Raine Group led the first closing of Midnite’s $16 million Series A, announced on February 1, 2022. Existing investors Makers Fund and Venrex also increased their investment. The company said Raine co-founder and partner John Salter would join its board, while managing director Garrett Gomes would become a board observer. Midnite described the proceeds as funding for platform growth. Midnite’s announcement is a company-provided release, so its descriptions of the financing and strategy should be read as the company’s account.
What was Midnite building?
The February 2022 announcement described three distinct product lines at different stages. Those launch dates and plans are historical statements from that announcement, not a current product roadmap.
| Product | Activity described in 2022 | Status in the announcement |
|---|---|---|
| Sportsbook | Wagers on esports and traditional sports | Launched in 2020 |
| CashMode | Players wagered on their own gameplay for cash prizes, with the opportunity framed around gaming skill | Launched in 2021 |
| Casual casino and minigames | A hyper-casual casino and minigames experience designed for gamers | Planned for launch in 2022; GamesBeat referred to the planned product as Arcade |
The descriptions do not establish how the products performed, what customers earned, or whether the planned 2022 casino/minigames product launched on that schedule. Midnite’s release said the team worked with Sky Bet to launch its platform. GamesBeat’s contemporaneous report also covered the founders’ product positioning.

Why was Midnite described as Gen Z-focused?
Midnite was founded in 2018 by Nicholas Wright and Daniel Qu, who had previously created daily fantasy sports platform Dribble. GamesBeat reported that the founders targeted Gen Z and millennials and described the service as a digital-first experience for gamers. That wording captures the company’s positioning as reported at the time; it is not evidence of a measured customer-age breakdown, market share, or independently verified audience profile.
Wright told GamesBeat, “We think this market should be technology led, and we look at betting as a form of entertainment.” In the funding announcement, he said the company aimed to use technology, fan-focused features, and in-house models to shape its user experience. These are statements of company strategy, not independent assessments of product quality or consumer outcomes.

What have regulators said about Midnite advertising?
Two 2026 Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) rulings are relevant context for a company whose public positioning has included younger adult audiences. They concern particular ads and should not be generalized to every Midnite advertisement.
Affiliate-created TikTok ad and an under-25 appearance
In a ruling dated September 16, 2026, the ASA upheld a complaint about a paid-for TikTok ad seen on July 3, 2026. The authority judged that an AI-generated character appeared to be under 25 while gambling and played a significant role in the ad, breaching the applicable CAP Code rules. The ruling records Midnite’s position that it had not sanctioned the ad and had not contracted with the affiliate, Limay Media, for paid social posts. Midnite said it ended the relationship and would remind affiliates of its compliance requirements. Limay Media said its approval process had not been followed and described additional safeguards. Ads that the ASA said portrayed gambling as an escape
On August 12, 2026, the ASA upheld complaints about five Midnite television, video-on-demand, and radio ads aired in April and May. The ruling states that the authority received 125 complaints about the set. The ASA concluded that the ads’ pattern of showing frustrations followed by references to the betting or casino app suggested gambling could help people move on from or forget problems, presenting it as a coping mechanism. It ordered that the ads not appear again in the complained-of form. The decision concerns those five ads, not all of Midnite’s advertising. ASA ruling on the five ads
