Microsoft’s October 3, 2025 U.S. price update raised recommended prices for five Xbox Series S and Series X console configurations by $20 to $70. It did not announce a game-price increase in that October update, and Microsoft’s stated rationale was “changes in the macroeconomic environment,” not tariffs specifically. The figures below are historical: Xbox prices rose again in 2026, so check the Microsoft Store for current prices and availability.
What changed in October 2025?
Microsoft’s U.S. price sheet dated October 3, 2025 lists five console configurations. The increases below compare those recommended prices with Microsoft’s May 1, 2025 U.S. list. Retailer transaction prices may differ.
| Xbox configuration | May 1, 2025 recommended U.S. price | October 3, 2025 recommended U.S. price | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Series S 512GB | $379.99 | $399.99 | $20 |
| Series S 1TB | $429.99 | $449.99 | $20 |
| Series X Digital | $549.99 | $599.99 | $50 |
| Series X | $599.99 | $649.99 | $50 |
| Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition | $729.99 | $799.99 | $70 |
These are recommended U.S. prices, not a guarantee of what a particular retailer charged. The Series S models are disc-free; Series X configurations include digital-only and disc-drive options, while the 2TB Galaxy Black model is a special edition. Microsoft describes Series X as offering native 4K and Series S as designed for 1440p with 4K upscaling; configurations and availability can change, so verify the current listing before buying.
Did Microsoft say tariffs caused the October increase?
Not in the October price sheet. The contemporaneous explanation attributed to Xbox was “changes in the macroeconomic environment.” That phrasing does not specifically identify tariffs as the cause. Tariff uncertainty formed part of the wider economic backdrop, but the available October statement does not establish that Microsoft explicitly blamed tariffs for this adjustment.

The distinction matters because a headline that says the October hike was “due to tariffs” overstates what Microsoft’s cited explanation confirms. The company’s October document establishes the date and prices; it does not provide a tariff-specific explanation.
Did Xbox games and accessories also get more expensive?
Not as part of the October 3 U.S. console price sheet: it lists consoles, not games or accessories. Microsoft’s May 2025 pricing changes were a separate event with a wider scope. The Associated Press reported that May changes covered console and controller recommended prices internationally, with some headset increases in the United States and Canada. It also reported that certain new first-party games were expected to cost $79.99 during the 2025 holiday season. Those May announcements should not be folded into the October console update.

No. The October 2025 amounts are historical recommended U.S. prices, not current shopping quotes. Tom’s Guide reported a further Xbox console price rise in June 2026, citing Xbox’s explanation about component costs.
