1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsMicrosoft said a bug had mistakenly suspended some Microsoft Rewards accounts in January 2025. It reported deploying a fix and said affected accounts would be restored automatically within several hours. That was a response to a specific incident—not evidence that a suspension you see today is a mistake or that the bug is recurring.
What Microsoft said about the mistaken suspensions
Windows Latest reported on January 4, 2025, that Microsoft had confirmed a bug was suspending some Rewards accounts. The publication quoted Microsoft as saying: “We’re aware of reports of Microsoft Rewards accounts getting suspended. We’ve deployed a fix, and any affected accounts should be back online in the next several hours.” Windows Latest’s January 4 report also quoted a Microsoft official saying the Rewards team was “in the process of reverting this automatically without any action from your (user) end.”
The report said some accounts were returning while others still displayed a suspension page. Microsoft’s stated recovery window was several hours, not an immediate guarantee for every account. The suspension message cited possible Microsoft Services Agreement violations, but that message alone did not establish that affected users had actually broken a rule.
How to distinguish that incident from a current account problem
| Situation | What was established | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| January 2025 reported bug | Windows Latest reported a broad incident on January 4, 2025, and quoted Microsoft saying it had deployed a fix and was automatically reverting affected accounts. | The report described automatic restoration for accounts affected by that incident. |
| A suspension or Rewards problem now | The 2025 report does not establish a current recurrence or show that an individual account action is mistaken. | Check the current Rewards dashboard, review the program terms and contact Microsoft Rewards Support about the account’s specific notice. |
Microsoft’s incident statement was reported by Windows Latest; the original underlying statement was not separately available in the sources reviewed. Treat the quotation and incident details as attributed reporting, not as a standing service guarantee.

Rules that can affect a Rewards account
Microsoft’s Microsoft Services Agreement says Rewards participants need a valid Microsoft account and must live in a supported region. It allows one Rewards Account per person and up to six per household. The terms warn that using a VPN or another tool to mask geographic location may result in cancellation and loss of accrued points.
Microsoft Support separately lists issues that can affect earning or redemption. Automated searches and trying to earn from outside your current market may prevent search points from accruing. VPN use, an incorrect code, VoIP numbers, and phone-number usage limits may interfere with redemption. These are general troubleshooting factors; they do not diagnose a particular suspension or explain the January 2025 bug. Check the current rules and account status before taking action.

How to pursue a current suspension or redemption issue
- Read the notice in your Rewards dashboard. Note whether the problem is an account suspension, missing search points, or a failed redemption; those are different issues.
- Check your account and activity against the program rules. Review the supported-region requirement, account limits, and location-masking warning in the Microsoft Services Agreement. Avoid attempts to bypass location or earning restrictions.
- Contact Rewards Support for a Rewards-specific problem. Use Microsoft Rewards Support and provide the notice and relevant details. Microsoft says Rewards is included with a Microsoft account at no fee, but availability, offers, earning rates, and redemption options vary by region; consult your current dashboard for what applies to you.
- Use Microsoft’s appeal route if the action concerns a general Microsoft account suspension. Microsoft’s Digital Safety appeal guidance says people who believe an account action was mistaken may appeal and should receive a result within approximately 14 days of submission. That is general account-enforcement guidance, not a Rewards-specific response-time promise.
