The often-repeated $80 million figure is a reported estimate—not a verified price Jordan paid. Here are the vessel’s documented specifications, its distinctive design and what the available sources do—and do not—establish about its owner and value.
What is the JOY superyacht?
JOY is a 70-metre (229 ft 7 in) motor yacht built by Dutch shipyard Feadship. The company identifies it as hull 812 and records its launch at the Kaag yard on May 28, 2016. Its profile describes a long-range yacht designed around unusually generous outdoor space and indoor-outdoor living.
Feadship credits its De Voogt Naval Architects with naval architecture, Bannenberg & Rowell with the exterior design, and Studio Indigo with the interior. Designer Dickie Bannenberg described the project brief as to “create something totally different to every other yacht.” Feadship director Jan-Bart Verkuyl called the yacht a result of starting with “a blank sheet of paper” and combining the owner’s wishes with the experience of the builder and design teams. Feadship also said the client was building a first superyacht; its launch materials do not identify that client by name.

What stands out about the design and amenities?
Feadship highlights four outdoor decks, broad exterior spaces and wide sidewalks, with the layout intended to connect interior rooms to the open air. The builder also points to a glass-bottom pool and a foredeck that can be used as a basketball or badminton court. These features make outdoor recreation a prominent part of the vessel’s design rather than a small add-on to its indoor accommodations.
JOY’s yacht website lists a gym, treatment room, tenders, personal watercraft, SeaBobs, paddleboards, kayaks and other watersports equipment and inflatables. Those are marketing-site equipment descriptions; they are not an independent inventory or assessment of what is aboard at any particular time.

Does Michael Jordan own JOY?
The available sources do not establish that he does. Some secondary coverage attributes JOY to Jordan. For example, SBT Sports reported in 2021 that he acquired it in 2019, while CelebYachts also links the vessel to him but says the ownership attribution is reported rather than certified. SuperYachtFan, by contrast, names Indian businessman Sameer Gehlaut as owner. Feadship’s official launch and fleet materials reviewed here do not name the owner.
That leaves the Jordan connection unverified, not proven or disproven. The safest description is that JOY has been reported as Jordan’s yacht, while yacht-focused sources disagree about ownership. None of the cited primary builder materials confirms that he is the owner, and the differing secondary claims are not enough to settle the question.

Is JOY really worth $80 million?
US$80 million is a figure repeated in secondary yacht reporting and news coverage, but it is not a documented Feadship sale price or a verified transaction amount in the sources cited here. SuperYachtFan presents it as an estimate; SBT Sports reported it as the amount Jordan paid. The evidence available does not establish that Jordan paid that sum—or that $80 million is the yacht’s current market value.
Feadship says JOY’s fuel consumption is “some 40 percent lower” than that of other yachts of its length, but the cited project page provides no comparison method or underlying study. Treat that as a builder-attributed statement, not an independently demonstrated operating-cost saving. No audited build-cost figure or independent market valuation is established by the sources cited here, so a precise running-cost estimate would be speculative.

Y.CO and Burgess list JOY for charter. Y.CO’s listing gives the charter accommodation figures of 12 guests, seven cabins and 19 crew.
