Examples documented by the companies themselves include Nestlé’s birds in a nest, Petco’s named logo mascots, Bayer’s former lion trademark, Eni’s six-legged dog and Takeda’s Uroko mark. Those histories show how animal imagery can enter a brand—and why an old animal mark should not automatically be mistaken for a company’s current logo.
What companies have animal logos?
These examples are drawn from company histories. The role of the animal differs in each case, and historical descriptions alone do not establish that a mark remains in current use.

| Company | Animal image | Documented role and history | What the source establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nestlé | Birds in a nest | Henri Nestlé chose a symbol showing baby birds being fed in a nest for the label of his infant cereal. The company says a universal logotype based on its chocolate brand was adopted in 1973 for all product categories and as its corporate logo. | The company history documents the cereal-label origin and the 1973 adoption. It does not, by itself, verify every detail of the present-day mark. |
| Petco | Red Ruff and Blue Mews | Petco’s history says the company introduced the pair as its official logo mascots in 1991. | The history identifies them as mascots; it does not confirm their current use in Petco’s logo. |
| Bayer | Lion | Bayer’s history of the Bayer Cross says the newer logo eventually replaced the company’s original lion trademark. | The lion is a historical trademark, not evidence of Bayer’s current logo. |
| Eni | Six-legged animal resembling a dog | Eni describes sculptor Luigi Broggini’s design as “a six-legged animal resembling a dog, facing to the left of the viewer, but with its head looking backwards”. The company also recounts later changes to the wider brand identity. | The account documents the unusual figure and its design; it should not be simplified to an ordinary dog or treated as proof of unchanged current use. |
| Takeda | Uroko | Takeda’s company history says Uroko became its official company mark in 1943 and describes it as simple and easy to remember. | The history establishes the mark’s role and date of adoption, not its continued use in the company’s current identity. |
What do animal logos mean?
An animal image does not have one universal meaning established by these examples. The company histories explain where particular marks came from and what role they played, but they do not show that a bird, lion or dog carries the same intended message across brands. Read the context: a symbol chosen for an infant-cereal label, a named mascot and a former trademark are different kinds of brand history.

How to tell a current logo from a historical mark
- Look for the role named by the company. A logo, mascot, product-label image and trademark are related forms of brand imagery, but they are not interchangeable.
- Check the tense and date. A company history may explain when a mark was introduced or what it replaced. That is not confirmation it is still used.
- Separate the symbol from the broader identity. Eni’s account, for example, discusses later changes to its wider brand identity alongside the six-legged figure.
- Use current official brand material to confirm present use. Without that confirmation, describe the documented history rather than labeling the animal part of the current logo.
Why these examples are useful comparisons
Nestlé and Petco illustrate different origins: birds chosen for an infant-cereal label, and two named mascots introduced in a company history. Bayer is a clear case of replacement, with a newer logo displacing an earlier lion trademark. Eni’s account preserves a distinctive description of a six-legged animal, while Takeda’s history records Uroko’s adoption as a company mark. Together, the examples show why identifying an animal is only the beginning; its role, origin and documented period of use matter too.
