Jane Street’s Terraform Lawsuit: What the Complaint Alleges—and What It Doesn’t

The Terraform Plan Administrator’s civil complaint accuses Jane Street and three individuals of misconduct around UST’s May 2022 collapse. The allegations are not court findings, and the available docket snapshot does not confirm a later ruling.

The available court record does not substantiate a claim that Jane Street used a “Bitcoin manipulation algorithm.” The civil complaint instead alleges that Jane Street and three individuals traded UST around Terraform’s May 2022 collapse while using material nonpublic information obtained through connections with Terraform insiders. Those are allegations by the Terraform Plan Administrator, not findings that Jane Street broke the law.

What is Jane Street accused of in the Terraform lawsuit?

Todd R. Snyder, Plan Administrator for the Terraform Labs Wind-Down Trust, filed a civil complaint against Jane Street Group, Jane Street Capital, and individuals Bryce Pratt, Robert Granieri, and Michael Huang. The complaint asserts claims including insider trading, fraud, and market manipulation, and seeks remedies including disgorgement. The complaint and the administrator’s case summary describe the plaintiff’s case; neither turns its claims into established facts.

The allegations center on UST and Terraform’s collapse

The complaint alleges that Jane Street sold UST on May 7, 2022, and that UST depegged from its intended dollar value within hours. It further alleges that Jane Street obtained material nonpublic information through connections with Terraform insiders and used it while managing its exposure. The complaint’s theory concerns alleged trading and information around Terraform’s collapse, particularly UST—not a substantiated Bitcoin trading algorithm.

The filing also says that “since May 2022, Jane Street has not accessed the wallet that it used to execute the trades that contributed to Terraform’s collapse.” That is the plaintiff’s characterization in its complaint, not a court’s determination that the wallet or trades caused the collapse.

Does the case show that Jane Street manipulated Bitcoin?

No such conclusion is supported by the complaint described in the available record. The title’s “Bitcoin manipulation algorithm” wording is not substantiated there: the allegations focus on UST, information allegedly obtained from Terraform insiders, and trades around the ecosystem’s May 2022 collapse. The complaint’s inclusion of a market-manipulation claim does not, by itself, establish that any manipulation occurred, much less that it involved Bitcoin or an algorithm.

For readers assessing the story, it helps to keep three distinctions clear: what the plaintiff alleges, what a court has ruled, and which asset or event the allegations concern. Here, the allegations are in a civil complaint; the available docket listing does not establish a ruling on them; and the complaint’s central asset is UST.

Has the court ruled on the Jane Street lawsuit?

The docket listing retrieved July 13, 2026, shows Jane Street’s motion to dismiss filed April 23, Snyder’s opposition filed June 11, and Jane Street’s reply filed July 13. That means the listing records briefing on the motion through July 13; it does not establish whether the judge ruled afterward. The docket listing itself cautions that PACER may have a newer entry, so a current ruling or next hearing should be checked against the live court docket.

A motion to dismiss and the parties’ briefs are steps in a case, not a decision that the allegations are true or false. The complaint remains the plaintiff’s account unless and until the court makes relevant findings or the parties resolve the case.

How does this differ from other Terraform-related legal cases?

Several proceedings relate to Terraform, but their parties and legal outcomes are not interchangeable. The distinction matters: an outcome in one case does not decide Jane Street’s liability in another.

Proceeding What the cited record says What it does not establish
Snyder v. Jane Street A civil complaint by the Terraform Plan Administrator alleges misconduct by Jane Street entities and three individuals. The docket listing retrieved July 13, 2026, records motion-to-dismiss briefing through Jane Street’s reply that day. The complaint’s allegations are not findings, and that docket snapshot does not confirm a later ruling.
United States v. Do Hyeong Kwon The U.S. Department of Justice says Kwon was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment on December 11, 2025, for wire fraud and conspiracy to commit securities fraud, commodities fraud, and wire fraud. The DOJ case page was updated January 13, 2026. Kwon’s criminal sentence is not a finding of Jane Street’s liability in Snyder’s civil action.
Patterson v. Terraform Labs A September 2, 2026, Northern District of California order discusses allegations against Jump Trading and pleading standards for manipulation in that separate case. It is not a Jane Street ruling and does not resolve Snyder’s claims.

What readers can responsibly take away

  • The Jane Street matter described here is a civil lawsuit brought by the Terraform Plan Administrator, not a criminal case against Jane Street.
  • The complaint alleges trades and access to nonpublic information related to UST and Terraform’s May 2022 collapse; those claims have not been established as facts in the cited record.
  • The available docket listing records motion-to-dismiss briefing through July 13, 2026, but does not verify what happened after that date.
  • Kwon’s sentence and the separate Jump Trading litigation are distinct proceedings, not decisions on Jane Street’s alleged conduct.
