The M2 12.9-inch iPad Pro is a discontinued 2022 model, so the best buys are typically refurbished, open-box or used—not current-generation retail deals. In U.S. listings checked August 18, 2026, Apple Certified Refurbished pricing was $969 for 128GB Wi‑Fi, while Best Buy listed refurbished cellular models at $974.99 for 256GB and $1,059.99 for 128GB. Those are verified asking prices, not automatic bargains: compare the exact configuration, warranty and return terms before paying.
Current M2 iPad Pro 12.9-inch prices
These U.S. prices were checked on August 18, 2026. Refurbished inventory and prices can change or disappear; confirm the final product page and checkout total before buying.
| Configuration | Condition and seller | Price checked | Warranty and value |
|---|---|---|---|
| 128GB, Wi‑Fi | Apple Certified Refurbished | $969 | Apple’s refurbished warranty and service terms; expensive for the base storage, but may suit buyers who prioritize Apple’s assurance. |
| 128GB, Wi‑Fi + Cellular | Best Buy Geek Squad Certified Refurbished | $1,059.99 | Product page stated a 90-day warranty. Weak value unless cellular is essential. |
| 256GB, Wi‑Fi + Cellular | Best Buy Geek Squad Certified Refurbished | $974.99 | Better storage and lower price than the 128GB cellular listing, but still not a standout low price. |
| 256GB, Wi‑Fi | Best Buy refurbished, older A12Z generation | $679.99 | Not an M2 iPad Pro; do not treat this price as a comparable M2 deal. |
| 256GB, Wi‑Fi + Cellular | Best Buy, current 13-inch M5 with OLED | $1,699 | Newer-generation alternative at a much higher price. |
Apple’s refurbished 128GB Wi‑Fi listing showed $969 on the checked page, while an earlier page snapshot showed $839. That difference illustrates why these figures are a dated snapshot, not guaranteed prices. Check Apple’s refurbished listing. Best Buy listings: 128GB cellular and 256GB cellular.
What is a good price for the M2 12.9-inch iPad Pro?
Use these as buying benchmarks, not reported live offers or official market prices. The right threshold depends on storage, connectivity, condition, return rights and warranty.

- Stay connected with ultrafast Wi-Fi
- About $600–$750: An attractive range for a good-condition or certified-refurbished Wi‑Fi unit, depending on storage and protections.
- About $750–$900: More defensible for 256GB or a higher-storage model with a reliable warranty.
- Above $900 for 128GB Wi‑Fi: Usually weak value unless Apple’s refurbishment and after-sale coverage justify the premium for you.
- Around $1,000 or more for 128GB cellular: Usually poor value; compare with newer models or better-equipped used configurations.
Judge the amount you will actually pay, including tax and shipping, rather than a seller’s claimed discount from an original or “comparable” price. Add the cost of any accessories and, for cellular, the data plan you expect to use.
Which M2 configuration should you buy?
Storage: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or more
- 128GB: Can work well for browsing, streaming, note-taking, office tasks and lighter creative use, particularly if you rely on cloud storage. It leaves less room for large local media collections and projects.
- 256GB: A sensible general-purpose target for many buyers. Prefer it when the price difference from 128GB is modest.
- 512GB: Consider it for large photo or video projects, downloaded media, games or professional apps.
- 1TB or 2TB: Best reserved for workflows that need substantial local storage. These configurations also have 16GB of RAM, versus 8GB in the 128GB, 256GB and 512GB versions, but the premium may be hard to justify on a discontinued model.
Wi‑Fi or Wi‑Fi + Cellular
Wi‑Fi is usually the better-value choice if you are mostly at home, at work or able to use your phone’s hotspot. Cellular can make sense for frequent travel, field work or places where reliable Wi‑Fi and tethering are not practical. It requires a carrier data plan, and coverage and service availability depend on the carrier and market. Do not pay extra for cellular unless you expect to use it.
Make sure the listing is actually the M2 model
The target device is the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (6th generation, released in 2022). “12.9-inch iPad Pro” by itself does not identify the chip; several generations share that screen size and similar listing names.

Before ordering, confirm “6th generation” and “M2” in the title or detailed specifications, then match storage and connectivity. One Best Buy listing at $679.99 was an older A12Z model, not M2. See that older-generation listing as an example of why the screen size alone is not enough. If seller fields conflict, give more weight to the model identification and Apple’s specifications than to autogenerated question-and-answer content; product pages can contain stale or incorrect details.

What the M2 model offers—and what its age means
The sixth-generation 12.9-inch model pairs an M2 chip with a Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED display. Apple lists a 2732 × 2048 resolution at 264 pixels per inch, ProMotion, P3 wide color, True Tone, up to 1,000 nits full-screen brightness and 1,600 nits peak HDR brightness. It also has Face ID, Thunderbolt/USB 4, Wi‑Fi 6E, a 12MP wide and 10MP ultra-wide rear-camera system with LiDAR, and a 12MP ultra-wide front camera with Center Stage. Cellular versions support 5G. Apple rates battery life at up to 10 hours of web browsing or video playback; actual battery life varies with use and condition. Apple’s product page lists the model specifications.
The Wi‑Fi version weighs about 1.5 pounds. Compatible accessories include Apple Pencil (2nd generation), Apple Pencil (USB-C), Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio. Check the exact keyboard model before buying; compatibility depends on the iPad generation and keyboard. Accessories are not necessarily included with a refurbished or used unit.

Apple-refurbished, retailer-refurbished, open-box or used?
Apple Certified Refurbished
Apple says its refurbished iPads include a one-year warranty matching a new iPad’s, manuals and accessories, a new battery and outer shell, and a new white box after Apple’s refurbishment process. That can be worth paying more for if dependable coverage and a new battery matter. It does not make every listing a bargain: the checked $969 price was for 128GB Wi‑Fi.
Retailer-certified refurbished
A retailer’s certification is not the same program as Apple’s. The checked Best Buy 128GB cellular listing stated a 90-day warranty and included a charging cable and 20W adapter. Check the individual listing for warranty, included items, condition grade, return deadline and battery policy; retailer-refurbished products may differ on each point. Review the listing’s current terms.

Open-box and marketplace units
These can cost less, but “open-box,” “renewed” and condition labels are not standardized across sellers. A short warranty, used battery, missing accessories or restrictive returns can erase the apparent savings. For a non-certified device, favor a seller with a clear return window and buyer protection over a vague condition grade.

M2 12.9-inch versus the newer 13-inch iPad Pro
The current-generation comparison checked here was a 13-inch M5 iPad Pro with OLED; Best Buy listed a 256GB Wi‑Fi + Cellular configuration at $1,699 on August 18, 2026. Check the current M5 listing. It costs substantially more than the refurbished M2 prices above, but offers newer hardware, OLED and a longer expected product-life horizon. Do not assume an exact software-support end date from age alone.
The M2’s mini-LED screen remains capable for HDR and large-screen work. Mini-LED and OLED are different trade-offs, not a universal quality ranking: mini-LED uses local dimming and can show blooming around bright objects against dark backgrounds, while OLED can switch individual pixels off for black. If you are sensitive to blooming or prioritize OLED’s black levels, the newer panel may matter; if the mini-LED experience and savings matter more, the M2 remains a candidate.
- Choose M2 when the price is clearly lower than a comparable newer Pro, you specifically want the 12.9-inch mini-LED display, or you already have compatible accessories.
- Choose newer when the price gap is small, you prioritize OLED or newer hardware, or you want the longer expected support horizon.
Check a used iPad before paying
For a marketplace or non-certified unit, inspect it in person when possible and do not rely on a seller’s condition label alone. Confirm the return policy before the inspection; do not complete a purchase if the seller will not allow basic activation and function checks.
- Confirm identity: Match the model, sixth generation/M2, storage and Wi‑Fi or cellular configuration to the listing. Check the serial number with Apple.
- Remove account and management locks: Have the seller sign out of Apple ID, turn off Find My, erase the iPad and let you begin setup. Do not buy a device that remains Activation Locked or is managed by a school or business.
- Inspect the display and touch: Look for bright spots, dead zones, severe blooming, cracks and areas that fail to respond to touch.
- Test core hardware: Check Face ID, USB‑C charging, cameras, speakers, microphones, Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth. Test data transfer or Thunderbolt accessories if you need that capability.
- Check battery and accessories: Ask for the seller’s battery policy and test for unusually rapid drain. Verify any advertised Pencil, keyboard, cable or charger is actually included and works.
- For cellular models: Confirm cellular connectivity and that the device is unlocked and not blocked or tied to unpaid financing. A carrier plan is a separate ongoing cost.
- Get the deal terms in writing: Confirm the warranty, return deadline, shipping, tax and any condition disclosures before payment.
Compare the total cost, not the discount banner
- Match the generation and M2 chip, then match storage and connectivity.
- Compare the same condition category where possible: new, open-box, certified refurbished or used.
- Add sales tax, shipping, any needed accessories and cellular service to the headline price.
- Read the warranty, battery policy, included-accessory list and return restrictions on the exact product page.
- Compare the result with a newer refurbished iPad Pro and recheck stock and price immediately before purchase.
Best Buy’s search and product pages can show different prices, so use the final product page and checkout total rather than a search result. Best Buy’s deals search page is a starting point, not a price guarantee.
