The deal brings Telent’s operational technology, communications, network and digital capabilities into M Group’s infrastructure-services business. M Group has not disclosed the purchase price in the official material reviewed.
What happened and when?
M Group announced the agreement on 16 April 2025, describing Telent as a provider of operational technology and digital solutions for critical national infrastructure in the UK and Ireland. The transaction was subject to regulatory approval. M Group’s financial information page records completion on 31 July 2025, and Telent separately confirmed that the acquisition had completed after the necessary approvals.
At completion, M Group Chief Executive Andrew Findlay said: “As we enter a period of integration, we will continue to focus on business as usual, putting safety and our clients first.”
Why did M Group buy Telent?
M Group’s stated rationale was to add technology and digital capabilities to its infrastructure-services footprint. Its announcement highlighted Telent’s mission-critical communications, network infrastructure and end-to-end cyber-security services, with the aim of developing more integrated offerings in telecom, transport, water and energy.

M Group also identified the public sector, defence, emergency services and education as adjacent markets. Those are the company’s stated strategic ambitions; the announcement does not show that every anticipated benefit has since been delivered.
How do the businesses fit together?
M Group provides infrastructure services, while Telent brings operational technology and digital infrastructure capabilities. The intended fit is that these capabilities can be combined in services for essential networks and public-service environments, rather than simply adding another general infrastructure contractor.

- 【High Efficiency Visual Fault Locator】Easy identification of fiber breakpoints, poor connections, bending or cracking. Excellent for finding the right fiber to splice or quickly finding a break. Our fiber optic cable tester is used for fiber tracing, fiber routing and continuity checking efficiently. It will create a bright glow around a break or fault barrier area in the fiber.
- 【Excellent Functions】This fiber optic tester is perfect for field tests because of its multiple functions such as constant output power, multi-interface adaptation, low battery warning, long battery life, and long-distance detection. Use two convenient AA batteries.
- 【Widely Used】2.5mm Universal Connector - the connector of this fiber tester is compatibly designed for ST, SC, FC, LC interferes both in the circle and square shape of different fiber optic cables. It can be used for CATV telecommunications engineering maintenance, integrated wiring system optical fiber engineering, optical device production and research, optical telecommunications, optical measurement drive engineering, etc.
- 【Long Output Distance】These fiber optic tools have strong output. The high-efficiency power supply circuit ensures a stable power supply.
- 【Crash-proof and Dust-proof Design】Our visual fault locator fiber optic is designed with stainless steel head and aluminum body to prevent crash and dust, and the case ground design prevents damage efficiently.
The acquisition sits within a wider consolidation and integration effort. M Group says its businesses unified under the M Group brand from 2 April 2025. In later commentary, Non-Executive Chair Archie Norman described work toward common systems and platforms, and said Telent and other acquisitions contributed digital solutions, data insights and technical services.
What do M Group’s latest financial results show?
M Group’s FY26 results, published in 2026, provide group-level context after the acquisition. The figures cover M Group as a whole; they do not isolate Telent’s performance or measure the acquisition’s specific contribution.
