The £10 million figure was a November 2025 estimate of what it might cost Liverpool to dismiss Arne Slot; it was not the amount later reported as paid. After Liverpool announced Slot’s departure on 30 May 2026, media reports attributed to De Telegraaf put his compensation at €8 million, about £6.9 million. Liverpool confirmed the departure but did not disclose a severance figure.
What the two figures mean
| Figure | What it refers to | Timing and attribution |
|---|---|---|
| £10 million | A reported estimate of the potential cost of dismissing Slot while he was still in the job | Reported by Sports Mole on 29 November 2025, attributing the estimate to De Telegraaf via Anfield Edition; Slot was reported to have just under two years remaining on a contract running to 2027. Sports Mole |
| €8 million (about £6.9 million) | Reported compensation for ending Slot’s contract early | Reported after his departure by Liverpool.com and This Is Anfield, both citing De Telegraaf; This Is Anfield said one year remained. Liverpool did not publish this amount. Liverpool.com; This Is Anfield |
These figures describe different stages, not necessarily conflicting accounts: the first was a prospective estimate in November 2025, while the second was a later media-reported compensation figure after the contract ended. The original De Telegraaf articles were not independently inspected, so the amounts and contract details should remain attributed to those reports.
How the PSV defeat fits into the timeline
Liverpool lost 4-1 at home to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on 26 November 2025. Ivan Perišić scored a penalty, Dominik Szoboszlai equalised, Guus Til restored PSV’s lead, and Couhaib Driouech scored twice. Liverpool’s post-match report
On 27 November, BBC Sport described it as Liverpool’s ninth defeat in 12 games and the club’s worst run in 71 years. It reported Liverpool 12th in the Premier League and 13th in the Champions League league phase at that time; those are historical standings, not current positions. Slot said after the match: “I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from above.” BBC Sport
