Singapore-based commercial cleaning-robot maker LionsBot was reported to have raised about US$17 million in a Series A round in January 2023. The report was based on Singapore corporate filings, not a detailed company funding announcement: TransLink Capital was identified as the lead investor, with an investment of about US$7 million. The filing-based coverage also described fresh equity alongside the conversion of earlier notes, so the headline figure should not be treated as a simple measure of cash received at one closing.

What LionsBot’s Series A report actually says

Coverage published on January 10, 2023, reported that LionsBot International raised approximately US$17 million in Series A financing, citing filings with Singapore’s Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA). Tech Times’ funding report identified TransLink Capital as the lead investor and put its contribution at about US$7 million.

The distinction between reported proceeds and the potential size of the round matters. A separate account said the financing included new equity and conversion of previously issued notes, and that LionsBot’s filings allowed it to raise up to US$20 million. That account also cited an US$80 million pre-money valuation. These are figures attributed to reporting on filings, not terms confirmed in a detailed LionsBot announcement. Asia Automate’s account provides those additional details.

There is also a later discrepancy: a startup database lists the Series A at approximately US$21 million. The underlying amended filing or a first-party confirmation is not established by the available reporting, so US$21 million should be treated as a later reported revision, not a definitive replacement for the January 2023 figure. The database entry is the source for that figure.

Who was reported to have invested?

TransLink Capital was described as the lead investor. Other reported participants were SuperSteam Asia Pacific, individual investor Freny Firoze Irani, and LionsBot’s founders. The available coverage does not establish that every participant formally co-led the round.

  • TransLink Capital: reported lead investor, with an investment of about US$7 million.
  • SuperSteam Asia Pacific: a strategic backer connected to the cleaning-equipment ecosystem.
  • Freny Firoze Irani and LionsBot’s founders: also named among the participants.

The investor list and TransLink figure come from the filings-based accounts linked above; they should be read as reported financing details rather than as a company-issued breakdown of final allocations.

What LionsBot makes—and who it serves

Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Singapore, LionsBot makes autonomous floor-cleaning robots for commercial and institutional sites, rather than household vacuums. Its target settings include malls, airports, offices, healthcare and education facilities, warehouses, factories, logistics operations, and other public or commercial spaces. The company describes its robots as tools to assist cleaning staff, with the aim of improving productivity and addressing labor constraints—not as a wholesale replacement for people. LionsBot’s company history gives its founding background, and its official site describes its current business and product range.

At the time of the funding report, coverage highlighted the LeoBot as a flagship machine for vacuuming and scrubbing large public areas with limited human supervision. LionsBot’s current lineup is broader and includes the R5, R3 Vac, R3 Scrub Pro, and R12 Rex Scrub. Those current product names should not be projected backward as if the same range and configurations were all available in January 2023.

How commercial cleaning robots fit into a workday

Depending on the model and configuration, a robot can take on repetitive floor routes such as vacuuming or scrubbing. Navigation, obstacle handling, docking, charging, safety controls, and remote supervision are commercially important capabilities. LionsBot also offers LionsOS for operating and managing robot fleets. Features vary by model and software edition; a product-family claim does not establish that every capability is present on every machine.

“Autonomous” does not automatically mean unattended. Staff may still need to map or remap spaces, clear obstructions, refill water, empty debris, respond to alerts, maintain equipment, and handle work a machine does not perform, such as detail cleaning or vertical surfaces. LionsBot’s own positioning is assistance to cleaners, not a claim that every cleaning task can be left to robots.

What the financing signaled about LionsBot’s growth

The round was significant as financing for a Singapore robotics business seeking to scale commercial cleaning automation. Its business case rests on taking repetitive floor-care tasks off workers’ schedules so people can focus on inspection, detail work, customer interaction, exceptions, and oversight. Whether that creates savings depends on the site, the work process, the robot’s uptime, and the support required.

A later expansion gives one concrete sign of the company’s manufacturing ambitions. LionsBot announced a new Singapore facility of about 4,908 square metres, reporting an investment of around S$12 million, including roughly S$10 million in R&D and S$2 million in setup costs during 2023. The company said the site had about five times the previous facility’s capacity and could manufacture up to 4,000 robots a year on a single shift. That is stated production capacity, not evidence of actual annual output or sales. LionsBot’s factory announcement describes the facility and its capacity.

Later coverage also reported more than 2,500 robots sold since 2018, operations in more than 30 markets, and about 200 employees worldwide. It described US$30 million in 2024 sales (about S$41 million) as a target and profitability by 2025 as a goal. These are reported company figures and historical targets, not audited results or proof that the targets were achieved. The same coverage cited potential annual sales capacity of up to US$40 million; capacity should not be confused with booked revenue. The later report contains these claims.

Partnerships and product reach after the round

In May 2024, LionsBot and professional cleaning-equipment company Nilfisk unveiled the SC25 at Interclean Amsterdam. The machine was positioned for smaller and medium-sized commercial environments such as retail spaces, offices, kindergartens, and clinics, and was manufactured at LionsBot’s Singapore facility. The collaboration illustrates a route to product development and market access through an established industry brand, alongside LionsBot’s own products. The announcement does not provide current purchase pricing or a full service package. LionsBot’s SC25 announcement describes the collaboration.

What a commercial buyer should check

For an operator considering a LionsBot system, the purchase decision is less like buying a household appliance and more like evaluating equipment, service, and workflow together. A useful assessment covers:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Cleaning task and floor: Specify whether the need is vacuuming, scrubbing, sweeping, or a combination; document floor types, debris, spills, traffic, and cleaning frequency.
  • Site fit: Check width of corridors and doorways, ramps, elevators, docking placement, and whether the chosen machine can navigate around furniture and pedestrian traffic.
  • Human support: Establish who handles mapping, refills, waste, alerts, blockages, maintenance, and work outside the robot’s capability.
  • Total cost: Include purchase or lease, installation and mapping, training, software or cloud fees, consumables, batteries, parts, maintenance, downtime, and any service contract.
  • Labor impact: Compare robot-assisted cleaning with the actual labor hours and duties it changes; do not assume the robot removes all staffing needs.
  • IT, safety, and service: Ask about network and data requirements, access controls, retention policies, emergency stops, pedestrian interaction, local technicians, parts availability, warranty, and update support.

Potential failure points include carts, cables, pallets, hoses, or temporary signage blocking mapped routes; an inaccessible charging dock; layout changes that require remapping; and wet spills or loose debris outside the machine’s intended use. Indoor navigation depends on sensors, mapping, and site conditions, not outdoor GPS. A robot may run its assigned route yet still miss corners, edges, detail work, or surfaces it was not designed to clean. Building features such as elevators and automatic doors may also need integration or staff assistance.

These constraints affect the economics as well as the operation. A large machine can cover more area but may be awkward in tight or crowded spaces; more robots can improve coverage while adding charging, maintenance, mapping, and fleet-management work. Before deployment, a buyer should test the machine on the actual site and verify the service and operating assumptions behind any savings estimate.

Bottom line on the reported $17 million round

LionsBot’s January 2023 Series A was reported at about US$17 million, with TransLink Capital named as lead and the financing described as a mix of fresh equity and converted notes. The filings-based account, possible later revision, and maximum round size are not interchangeable measures of money raised. Subsequent factory investment, product development, and the Nilfisk collaboration show an effort to turn financing into manufacturing scale and broader market access. For buyers and investors alike, the longer-term test is whether LionsBot can deliver reliable, well-supported fleets whose total operating cost and cleaning results make sense for real facilities.
