Liminal Experiences announced on March 11, 2025, that it had raised $5.8 million in seed funding to develop a platform for creating and sharing AI-assisted, episodic 3D adventures. The company later announced its first game, Liminal: Skies, with a planned 2026 launch. The available reporting does not confirm whether the game has since launched or establish its current price, platforms, or access terms.

What is Liminal Experiences?

Liminal Experiences is a game-development studio founded in 2022. In its March 2025 funding announcement, the company described a platform where players could make and share episodic 3D RPG-style adventures, using AI tools to help with storytelling and game creation. These are announced plans and features, not independently verified product capabilities.

The company framed creation as part of the game: players would build and decorate environments, edit characters, create quests, and use more advanced gameplay tools without coding. The announcement also described sharing adventures with one to four players. In a GamesBeat interview, founder and CEO Brendan Mulligan called it “a creativity game for storytelling.” GamesBeat compared the creation concept to Mario Maker and Zelda; that was an analogy, not an affiliation with either franchise.

Liminal said its approach was to use AI as an aid to human creativity. Mulligan described the goal as “centering humans in the creative process” and using AI to help create shared experiences. That is the company’s stated intent, not evidence of how the tools perform in practice.

How much funding did Liminal raise?

Liminal announced $5.8 million in seed funding on March 11, 2025. The announcement was issued by the company and distributed by Business Wire; it said the amount had been raised to date. The company named BITKRAFT Ventures, Riot Games, and OTK Media Group among its backers, and named Marc Merrill as an angel investor. Read the company-issued funding announcement distributed by Business Wire.

GamesBeat’s coverage also named Goodwater Capital and Coddy Johnson. The two accounts provide attributed investor names, not a verified or necessarily complete cap table. GamesBeat’s funding coverage and interview discussed the raise and the company’s product plans.

The Business Wire release identified Mulligan as founder and CEO, reporting that he had spent eight years at Riot Games in roles including investments and acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and League of Legends economy design. It identified David Lieberman as technical cofounder and reported his previous roles as Group Product Lead at Riot Games and VP of Engineering at Buildbox.

What is Liminal: Skies?

Liminal: Skies is the first title Liminal announced. In an October 19, 2025 report, the Los Angeles Times described it as a game in development in which players could build customizable Sky Islands, add buildings and characters, edit outfits and dialogue, use the company’s “Liminal Magic AI” tools, and share islands. The report said the game was planned for launch in 2026. Read the Los Angeles Times report.

Has Liminal: Skies launched?

The available reporting establishes a planned 2026 launch, not a confirmed release. It does not establish the game’s current availability, access model, price, supported platforms, or hardware requirements. Treat those details as unconfirmed unless Liminal publishes current information directly.

What did Liminal say about creators and partnerships?

Liminal presented its platform as a way for players to create original adventures and, potentially, for entertainment or game-IP owners to offer official episodes that fans could remix. The company’s funding announcement discussed this partnership opportunity, while Mulligan told GamesBeat that Liminal was not initially focused on adding user-generated content to existing games with established fan bases. Together, those statements describe a possible future licensing strategy alongside an initial emphasis on original creation; they do not establish a signed licensing deal or an available partner program.
