Lightmatter announced a $400 million Series D on October 16, 2024, at a company-stated valuation of $4.4 billion. The company said the financing brought its total capital raised to $850 million and would help prepare its Passage photonic interconnect for deployment in partner data centers.

How much did Lightmatter raise?

The Series D raised $400 million, according to Lightmatter’s October 16, 2024 announcement. The company also reported a $4.4 billion valuation at the time and said it had raised $850 million in total capital to date. These are figures reported by Lightmatter, not independently audited financing disclosures.

Who led and participated in the round?

Lightmatter said the round was led by new investors advised by T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. It named Fidelity Management & Research Company and GV (Google Ventures) among the participating existing investors. The announcement did not provide a breakdown of how much each investor contributed.

What did Lightmatter say it would do with the funding?

The company said it would use the financing to ready Passage, its photonic interconnect, for mass deployment in partner data centers. The announcement did not itemize spending or establish that deployment subsequently occurred.

What does Lightmatter make?

Lightmatter describes its business as photonic infrastructure for AI systems at scale, including interconnects and lasers. Its company overview says it was founded by MIT researchers in 2017. The Series D announcement focused on preparing Passage for data-center use, rather than on consumer products.

Co-founder and CEO Nick Harris described Passage as “the world’s fastest photonic engine” and said the technology was intended to address limits on AI computing performance. “World’s fastest” is Lightmatter’s characterization, not an independently verified comparison.

Is this a current funding announcement?

No. The Series D was announced in October 2024, so it is historical rather than newly announced. Lightmatter’s press-release archive lists later company announcements through September 17, 2026. That archive does not, by itself, establish whether Lightmatter has raised another funding round since the Series D.
