Alcatel-Lucent and Telstra planned a three-year research and development partnership to create innovations tailored to Telstra’s network. The announced arrangement set out joint planning, regular reviews and shared R&D contributions; the available reporting describes intended work, not completed projects or measured results.
What the agreement covered
The arrangement was a business-to-business collaboration, not a consumer service or retail offer. EE Times described Telstra as an Australian telecommunications and information services provider and said the work was intended to support its network transformation. The agreement’s stated term was three years.
How the R&D partnership was meant to work
A shared plan with regular reviews
The companies planned a comprehensive joint R&D plan, subject to regular evaluation and review. They also intended to assess Alcatel-Lucent products and solutions on a recurring basis to determine whether they were relevant to Telstra’s network development.
Solutions tailored to Telstra
The partners said they would develop differentiated solutions aligned with the capabilities and requirements of Telstra’s network. They also committed to contribute intellectual property and R&D-focused resources jointly. These commitments describe the planned collaboration; the EE Times report does not identify particular resulting products or say that specific targets were achieved. What the companies said about the aim
Vince Pizzica, identified in the EE Times report as Alcatel-Lucent’s Asia Pacific CTO, described the partnership as an opportunity to align product and service offerings with a carrier’s business through close insight into its needs. The report also presented broadband innovation in Australia as an intended benefit of working together. Those statements explain the ambition behind the agreement, rather than verify later outcomes.
When was it announced?
Contemporary reports conflict on the announcement date. EE Times displays 7 March 2007, while a 光纤在线 item published on 26 June 2007 says the agreement was announced on 25 June. Without an original company announcement to resolve the discrepancy, neither date can be treated as settled. 光纤在线’s report.

The available accounts establish the agreement’s planned term, review process and resource commitments, but do not establish which projects were completed or what commercial or technical results followed. The agreement should therefore be understood as a framework for collaboration, not evidence that any particular network upgrade or product was delivered.
